Transport

As beeing new to RIBs I went through the Ribnet forums
Great to learn from all those people

I intend to buy my first RIB and found one in Scotland,
old but it's been said. (the seller says I can have it checked
by anyone)
I'm going over to check it out with all the knowlidge I
found in the forums, but then:
suppose I buy it
and here (finally) is the question:

coming from Holland it is quite a trip to Scotland and back,
so I'm thinking about having it transported.
does anyone have an idea who's doing things like that
and what would the costs be ??

thanks
Robert

Hi

Sureley you can find a secondhand Rib in Holland? Even if the one in Scotland is a bargain, I should think that any saving on the purchase would be offset by the transport costs.

Keith Hart

thanks for your response
just have a look at the nr 1 site in dutch boating
www. botentekoop.nl, sections rubberboten

What is common in GB, in Holland an inflatable is still
related to children, except for Zodiac
wether it is very expensive, otherwise it's smaal and plastic
that's how I started looking abroad

regards
Robert

Hi Robert, 5 years ago I bought a Pacific 22 in Lymington on South of England with the intention of bringing it back to Northern Ireland. There was no trailer with it so after purchase I paid a chap to tow it on a trailer from Lymington to Holyhead in North Wales, a distance of about 300 or so miles.
It cost me £400 for the towing and £60 for lifting it into the water.I then brought it home across the Irish Sea to Strangford Lough in N.Ireland.When I went to Holyhead I brought 2 more crew with me whom I had to pay their fare on the HSS from Dublin to Holyhead cost of about £80 total.Included was the flight from Belfast to Southampton to view and test the RIB,a cost of £257 return so for costs to view ,collect and tow it was almost £800.
I would allow at least £1200 if you were to do the same. Also check some of your local haulage companies in Holland.I know a lot come to N.Ireland via Scotland and it may be that if a lorry is going back empty you may strike a deal with them to collect your RIB at reasonable cost. Good luck with your venture.I would do it again.

If you get to the transport stage, send me a PM and I can put you in touch with some haulage companies, £500 should see it back in Holland

Robert,

Try these people as they would seem a little closer to you than Holland!

http://www.bruggemarinecenter.com/

Otherwise if you are going to buy a RIB in the UK then look at the East Coast as its a bit closer. If you give us an idea of what you are looking for and your budget someone might be able to help out!

HTH,

Alan
