Transom plate

I have got an Avon Adventurer 4.0 with a Yamaha 50hp. It did not have a transom plate and am going to fix one. Original Avon for this model is of plywood. Would you opt for original one or for a plastic or aluminum or stainless steel one (aftermarket)?

Personally I'd prefer stainless or ally.

I used ally checkerplate both sides on my SR4.

As a Tranny plate on my SR4, I re-made the outboard ply plate in marine ply and gave it two coats orange flocoat. It looks well. I have stainless bolt plates on the inside.

I'd go with the ali plate, or as nos suggests ali checker plate.

Why would you use aluminium over stainless?

It's a fetish thing

Seriously, I mistakingly thought the engine was small enough to be a clamp on outboard, got my mucking threads fuddled.
I don't like stainless for clamp on outboards as the clamps don't 'bite' into the surface and can move about or even slide off.

For a bigger outboard I'd still consider Ali as it's easier to work with, and it would come down to how much cutting, drilling etc I needed to do.
Obviously the Ali would need to be thicker than Stainless so weight wouldn't come in to it.

It would also depend on what material I'd scrounged out of a skip lately.

Get them made. Any engineering shop using ally checker plate will be able to do it.
Mine were cut on a power guillotine.
