Like everybody else I'm glad the OP is sorted , BUT the phrase " not fit for purpose " keeps ringing in my ears .........

I find it hard to accept that a major corporate can get away with such a sub standard component on an otherwise respected engine.......

Despite having a similar failure I would have the same engine again. I am wondering what is the recommendation of merc, yam, Suzuki etc when the engine is raised by 1 hole? What is the industry standard in this suitation? is it to leave the saddle unsupported or to provide additional support. But there is no doubt in my mind there is a weakness in the part. I also believe that the support under the saddle is the key. Notice there is no such reported failures on the net about the 40-50 hp engines (same engine de tuned)

Regards

TSM
