Given the owners name and the boat name, plus it had the name on the A-frame in stainless I wouldn't put money on 2 weeks. It'd take a while to get that done.

Let's wait for the investigation. I had been informed of a different reason.

Whatever the Events were that Lead to this Truley Sad and Tragic Accident, and especialy in view of the Fact that some of the People involved are still in Hospital.
Would'nt it be better to be Patient and wait until the results of the Official In-Depth Inquirey are Known.. befor we jump to Conclusions, and or, infer things that may well later prove to be completely Wrong?
I feel some GOOD points HAVE been made by Forum users.. but, untill we know the Facts,as they are..or as far as they can be proven..All the Speculation in the World wont realy Help.

Thanks Sue & John

Most stop buttons are also the kill switch, pull it out & put the tang of the kill cord behind the button. Our backup engine has a ziptie on the kill switch, so its push to shut down, it strugglles to do 3 knots on a good day! so safety is not really an issue with it, its for backup use only should the 90 fall off the back.

It's a good point-it'd be quite easy to go over trying to pullstart a motor on an aux bracket.

So the recommendation from MAIB is the kill cord should be worn whenever the engine is in gear, and preferably also when it's running in neutral. I fully agree with that statement.

Let's try and make something positive out of this awful accident, and all of us follow MAIB's recommendation.

Ive seen this happen in studland bay, guy gets off his cruiser, steps into his small tender, sits too far back and tries to pull the outboard cord, his weight plus the outboard on a small dinghy proves too much and the dinghy tips backwards hes gone off the back and then tender goes onto off him. luckily the outboard had not started.

I suspect that we all had an idea what had happened before the publication of the report. Simple message, test & wear your kill cord. If you don't have one get one fitted. A real tragedy/

This was a tragedy and the outcome for the injured parties is awful.

As I said before despite the mass media response on the day and for the week that followed the message is NOT getting through to RIB users.

Today I spotted two RIB helms out of the three I saw today on the water at Southampton NOT wearing KILL cords.

What do we have to do to get this simple message over. Shows Pics of people who dont? Shame those that dont?

It is also a very selfish action not to wear the KILL cord, It does not just affect the non wearer but everyone aboard, your loved ones, and those who pick up the PIECES of you and your crew.

As well as being stunned by this accident, I am now angry at those who want their freedoms aboard boats and cant be bothered to look after themselves at the risk to themselves and everyone else. If you decide not to wear a lifejacket and drown then down to you but a KILL cord accident is likely to impact on so many. Rant over, happy boating everyone

Somebody on here or the other thread came up with showing pictures of people struck by props at local Marinas and slipways which I think would be a good idea. Sometimes we need a shock to help stop us from becoming complacent.

Also maybe insurance companies could remind us on our policies documents that the cover would be void if it was found that the accidents was directly caused by not using the KC.

Yes, from what I understand.
