Not in ski wear - it fills up with water and becomes heavy and offers poor thermal protection once in the water. In contrast a flotation suit uses closed cell foam so offers good insulation (in and out of the water) and extra bouyancy.
One of the Candians on here recently posted a link to a video which was an excellent advert for a proper float suit rather than ski wear.
I personally agree with your comments about dry suits - not the most comfortable things to wear for long periods - but the majority of people here swear by them.
