Just got a text a few minutes ago:

Made it. Nightmare from the start. Before i set off my girlfriend spilled 15l of oil into the boat. Followed the ferry out at 0630 but had to turn back as i did not have a way point in the gps. In the end I left at 1500hrs into a force 6 was like crossong the alps. Waves washed my shoes away. Great weather now though.

The spilt oil accounts for the oil slick that Alex saw following Rob's RIB when he met him on Saturday morning - we were a little concerned that this a sign of a mechanical problem with the boat.

On a more serious note now that you've been out in a F6 would you go out in an F7, which I believe was forecast.
