Those Ebay Covers

I ended up buying one of those sub £100 covers on ebay, and thought I'd let everyone know about the sizing issues I experianced.

After talking to the company I was advised that because my Ocean is quite wide for a 6.5M and because of the large console, I'd need to go for the largest cover, so I went for the Size 7.

When it arrived I was impressed, its a good quality material with all the strap anchor points sewn on well etc and comes with a mesh bag to stow it in and plenty of straps.

When I tried to fit it, the stern section fitted like a glove around the A-Frame and over the Tube ends.
The Bow section was however Far too narrow to fit over the rubbing strake of the Ocean, and looked like it was meant for a more 'pointy' bow like a Scorpion etc.
And with both ends fitted it was obvious the cover was far too long as well, so I considered my options.

The next size down (6) would have been the right length, but still too narrow at the bow, and too narrow in the centre to cover the console and still go right over the tubes..

So what I did was quite simply slice the front 4 feet from the cover, tie off the elastic each side, and use Mrs Nashers sewing machine to turn a hem along the front edge. (Don't tell her, she was out )
By doing this at one of the strap points on the cover I've actually created a better strap down method at the bow.

I'm very pleased with the result.
For the price, and the small amount of work, I could not have expected such a well fitting cover. I just need to see how well it stands up to the wind etc now.

I would recommend one of the covers to anyone that is willing to put a small amount of work in to make it fit, but not to anyone who expects a perfect fit straight out of the bag.

As a bonus I have enough material left over that is already shaped almost perfectly to make an engine cover, I just need to wait until the sewing machine monitor goes out again to make it up.

See piccies below.

Could somebody post the ebay link please. I need a spare as the heat and very high UV has caused my lining to melt onto the stainless grab rail and seat backs.

Thanks

Brian, several firms but this is the one we used, we bought the wrong size to start with but no problem for them to exchange it for a size 6 for the Tohatsu, a perfect fit.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...2BSI%26otn%3D4

The only problem I have found so far is with the cold night temperatures the condensation builds up on the inside. Might be an idea to add a couple of light wieght vents to the top or things might start going mouldy underneath.

Andy, by all means pop round and borrow ours to see if it will fit before you order.

Regards Pete

Andy hi.

The Nashers Revenge has a beam of 2.78M, and has a small screen I fitted about 6 inches high on top of the console like yours.

Not a very high one is it. My Handrail/Screen rail will be at least 300mm higher than the console, so I think some modification to the cover will be in the order.

Cheers Pete. I have gone for the size 7. Condensation will be burnt off very quickly. Was thinking of using the new cover over the old one, as the old one has a reinforced panel over the grabrail/screen.

All the Best to you and Viv

Brian

I was thinking of using some pipe insulation foam to fit over the screen should be easy to push on and off

Thats exactlty what I've done.

Split down the middle with 'V's cut out to go around the corners.
Just pushes on and off as required.

Does anyone know of a cover that will completely cover a rib, including 'A' frame and engine?

Do you mean cover the whole A-Frame? I'm not sure if i've ever seen one like that. The one that came from XS with our rib covers the engine, but has velcro bits to let the a-frame "pop" out of the top of the cover.

Finally got round to ordering a new cover from eBay. The old one disintigrated (actually not that old only 6 mths). Went for the 21 - 22ft cover which covers both my Humber 5.5mtr rib and engine in one go. Pity Nasher doesn't live close, could do with employing his sewing skills.

When did you order it?

I phoned the company 3 weeks ago and they said they'd stopped selling them temporarily as they ahd found a defect in the material. If they're selling them again (i.e. since then) I'll get my order in.
