I’m with you on that. Although does the front design mean your ageing crew can walk ashore on the beach?

Aye it’d come in handy for my bath chair.

I'm with you on your assessment. It'll be like a scene from the Cruel Sea with Jack Hawkins, as you watch your possessions exit via the transom!

it's looking like a futura to me stick on rod mounts or transom mounted, cooler, fuel in the bow nice big toobs decent freeboard it'll perform with a 15 hp having less wetted area.transom wheels down pull her up the beach in your own secluded cove.

I think you’re right Jeff, I’ve not seen anything yet that ticks the boxes as well as the Futura. Thanks for all the suggestions though[emoji106]
I just need to settle on an engine now. Fenlander seems to think the 15 HP Yam might struggle.

I would agree with that, I’ve just bought something similar, a new Ceaser Surfcat, it’s 4.0m, I’m running a 40hp 2 stroke on it, although it’s slightly heavier and better built that a Zodiac, I reckon a 15hp on it would be utter pants. The Surfcat is rated for 70hp [emoji15]

PD you swerved commenting on the 2013 Aerotec outfit I linked a few posts above and I still believe for a couple doing what you want with dog and cool box absolutely fine... but in truth add in fishing and associated kit then the Aerotec is too narrow and too awkward with the sloping floor.

I mentioned the Takacat early on as a possibility but I reckon we'd need the closed bow and then to close the transom in so what's the point. In fact Dek who's selling that one here sums it up in his reason for selling.

You obviously have a bigger budget than the standard sub £1500 fayre so the Furura would be a good choice to settle on.

Re OB size it's just a gut feeling. With the lighter narrower Aerotec and no fishing gear the 15hp makes a great daily inflate setup. But the Futura is broader and heavier... almost as heavy as an alloy floor SIB of similar length.... such that my experience says you need a 20hp to give basic satisfactory performance... and above for even more fun.

Having said that if you really wanted to stick to a 2-stroke a guy on here had a Futura with Tohatsu 18hp which he reckoned a good combo.

Hi FL, I had a look at the Aerotec & it looks a nice package, but a tad older than I’d like. I’m looking for something no more than a couple of years old tbh. I’m probably not being particularly realistic unless I drop lucky. I’ve sort of resigned myself to buying new, there’s rush so I can wait until the end of the season or next year. I’m going to try & get down to the boat show in September to see which engines I can chuck over my shoulder [emoji849]
As I said right at the beginning, getting the right outfit is a higher priority than the cost, so the budget is “healthy”.
Thanks for all the info & pointers, it’s much appreciated [emoji106]

i specced a 15hp purely on portability dont forget the futura is a tunnel hulled boat unlike the aerotek and at 3.8 m each must be in the same ballpark. david your running a 15hp now 2 up dog bit of kit propping it right will give you the right performance for your needs the 15hp will give the ability to plane on the futura ok no speed records but as i understand it it's a bay hopper.
now if it's going to be used as i do on very long trips i would spec a 25hp max outboard but he will have to forget lifting the thing at 60 plus KG i believe the futura is about 75 KG so the tow ball box will be out.
performance suffers at the hands of portability or did until the aerotek came along but sadly thats ended will there be anything to replace it i doubt it the internal V floor wasn't everyones cup of tea either which made it stick out on performance.
my advice and if it were me i would by the futura and see if the dealer with lend a 15 to try all the better if he buys the set up together OMO

Well! It’s a funny old game this boating lark. I went to the Boat Show yesterday with the intention of buying my 75% mind made up Futura......and put a deposit down on an Excel Volaire 390[emoji849]. Let’s hope I made the right decision.

Cheers Jeff, that’s reassuring. It’s coming with a 20hp Suzuki & some extras.
