Thanks Brian, and Ribnet!

Last Saturday we blasted over to Torquay, but ended up mooring in Brixham. Tried to get some oil there but no luck. We desperately needed a top up due to a leaky union on one engine, and went across the bay to Torquay in search of Halfords. When I dropped one of the crew off in the marina he bumped into Brian from this forum who having recognised the boat kindly offered to save him the cab ride to halfords and gave him a lift. We gladly returned the favour with a quick spin across the bay in our boat.

I think this is what Ribnet is all about. Thanks Brian, was much appreciated. Hope you enjoyed the short blast in our boat and are now on your way to becoming an addict lol! We are all lost causes now as our lives become devoted to this boat and keeping it running!

Still hoping to make it to the Cowes Torquay Cowes, fingers crossed.

Regards
Tecno 40 Crew

Hi Andy
I believe you guys are coming over here in a week or two, would be good to catch up. Lee, I will let you know arrangements closer to the time.
I think Brian still has a silly grin plastered on his face.

We never intended to lose the 2 engine configuration, I think you are confusing us with the tecno 42 that is a support boat for a big yacht. That runs one very big single diesel lump. We just swapped our race engines for pleasure engines still seatek and dropped a few horses in exchange for some reliability.

I am not sure when we will be back in the water Charles, this is not Andy but I talk on his behalf as he is not into the web.

Actually I think it is me that ought to do the thanking! The only reason I haven't posted till now is that my hands are still shaking!
I have never been that fast on water in my life! What a blast.
Thanks chaps. Look forward to being passed by you at sea again.
Out of interest here is a snap of the two Seatek 750's.

Andy, Steve, Mike...please keep us all informed as to the time and dates of your C-T-C race. I am sure a number of rib.net correspondents would like to come out and cheer you on.

Hi Brian

Dont worry, we will keep you posted, if we are all ready to go in time for the race. Still a few teething problems to fix. By the way I am Nick, not Mike (he doesnt exist lol, not on our boat anyways). I was the one driving the boat, Steve is the guy tying it up in the picture.

A couple of things we need help with are as follows if anyone has any advice or skills they wish to lend!

1. We need to get the right props on as we have dropped about 10 knots in top speed and hope to get some of it back if possible. The props we have on now gave us 78 knots on the old 850hp engines. Our knowledge in this area is at best very sketchy! Would be glad of any info from anyone on how to improve this. Bearing in mind we have trimax surface drives.

2. We need to get a 4 man liferaft, and wanted to know a good make and where not to get ripped off buying it.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, Nick.
Must have got Mick and Nick mixed up over the roar of the engines.

Re the props.
Have you tried Steel Developments:

Hi Guys,
Sorry you had the problems last weekend.
My pupils on board where very interested in your RIB whilst it was in Brixham. Suggested they waited and gained a bit more than 2 days experience!!
Hope all is fixed now.

Get a deal at the southampton show

On the liferaft bit,I havent done my reserch yet besides a bit of shuftying around at last yrs Southampton boatshow.

For commercial stuff I liked the Zodiac raft with double floor and inflatable shelter. You can get it in different specs dependant what cruising you are doing. It was lighter than the Avon.Avon had two offshore models on show the one that I looked at was real nice was made out of very strong fabric or there was the std rubber one with double floor. The costs were real high for the stronger fabric 3.5k for a 6 man but was used in aircrafts.

If I had to jump now and cost was important as well as spec then I would be happy with the Zodiac commercial solas spec double floor raft with heat reflective floor. It was around £1400 for a 6 man from there comercial dealers who were based in preston lancs.

I kept there card and am over at eurocraft on saturday morn,if I can find it and its helpful pm me for there details as they were prone to negotiating.

I would do the deal at southampton boat show where you will get aprox 33% off if your a negotiater.

You can view all the rafts there and the spec there and compare.

Good luck and lets hope you dont have to thank me cos it works ok.

If you need a liferaft just for the one event, you ought to hire one. I haven't got the details to hand, but I used to hire one a couple of times a season when doing charters with my S/S.

As for props, I think you would be wasting your time contacting either Steel Developments or Prop Revs, it's not something that you are going to find that easily.

Might be better to bite the bullet and contact Rolla in CH, and prepare to spend big bucks!!
