Thames Byelaws - have your say

< Edit: If you haven't responded yet, please do even though you've missed the official deadline as it may not be too late - see note on page 4 of this thread! JK >

Dear all,

I've been sent a draft of the proposed Port of London Authority bylaws for consultation.

If you would like to express your opinions on the proposals - including a speed limit on the whole tidal Thames then it may be worthwhile having a good look at the attachements below;

Any comments you may have regarding the above proposals should be addressed, in writing, to

Julian Parkes,
Harbour Master(SMS)
Port of London Authority
London River House
Royal Pier Road
Gravesend,
Kent
DA12 2BG

or by email: cn@pola.co.uk to arrive no later than Friday 25 July 2008.

I am happy to knock up a template letter for people to download and sign if that would be helpful.

Chris

Proposed Thames changes

Chris. as I read this we will all be forced to maintain below 8 knts unless involved in rescue and events monitoring and with PLA Harbour masters permission.
If this occurs RIB operations for paying clients will surely stop, I hope I have mis-read this!!

This has always been what I've though; surly London RIB Voyages and now the new O2 express will be forced to stop working.

I read it as 12 knots below Wandsworth bridge for most of us, or do I read it incorrectly?

Not that 12 is much better than 8

I knew the scum would end up doing this - no doubt the large operators who caused most of the problems would have some sort of exemption so just us poor mug TAX payers suffer!!!

God this Government stinks - first they ban people from offroading and driving on beaches and now this!!!

Just noticed the larger passenger craft ARE exempt - money talks eh???

Oh of course - they pay lots of lovely TAX..........

Does anyone know the PLA's argument for introducing the speed limit? I'm not aware of any major speed related incidents.

Chris - i'm sure a draft letter would encourage people to send in their objections.

I am... the RNLI swamped a rowing boat a couple of years ago... the boat then broke it's back with the weight of water, and sank if I remember correctly. I think that the RNLI were "involved in rescue" at the time though. So they would be exempt from these new rules.
