I was telling some kiddies in Portsmouth the story and I tried to draw the Jolly Sailor on the Board.
'Is that a sausage roll?' asked one of them helpfully...
'No. It's a boat.' I said...it wasn't that bad a drawing...I'm sure (
Then I drew Ireland (that took a while
'What's that?' came another voice politely.
'That's Ireland' I said. (These kiddies are around 8 yrs old )
'Where's that?' the little girl asked.
'It's near England' I said.
'Oh England...' came the reply 'I been there once'
The story took a while after that. Just as well we're in the GPS generation !
But when I mentioned Fiona a few of them said : 'Is that Princess Fiona?' (They were all Shrek-heads)
'Yes', I said. 'But it's another
Princess Fiona. Princess Fiona the Sailor. Now listen to the story...'
