You and the RN then, its going to sound like the battle of Trafalgar with this lot going off.

LNTM 34/05 22/06/2005 - 17:23:16

1. MARINERS ARE ADVISED THAT saluting guns will be fired both in the harbour and the Eastern Solent between the 23 28 June 2005 as part of the Trafalgar 200 Celebrations and as marks of respect to foreign warships taking part in the event.
2. On the following two occasions saluting guns will be fired in Portsmouth Harbour by HMS CHATHAM;
a. 27 JUN. 2 guns / rounds will be fired at 1130 as a practice
b. 28 JUN. 21 Gun salute will be fired as Her Majesty the Queen embarks in HMS ENDURANCE AT 1130. At this time HMS CHATHAM will be positioned on the western side of the main channel, east of Burrow Island.
3. There will be a total of 14 in number national 21 gun salutes fired between Horse Sand and No Mans Land Forts between 23 27 June during the periods of 0805 1800, as ships arrive. Each salute will be answered with 21 guns by HMS INVINCIBLE, from her anchorage in the eastern Solent.
4. In addition at 1200 on the 27 and 28 June HMS INVINCIBLE, (at the eastern end of the Restricted Anchorage area) and HMS ST ALBANS, (at the western end of the Restricted Anchorage area) will each fire a single round to signify the closure of the Review Area and again on re-opening (time to be confirmed).
5. During the rehearsal of the Review on the 27 June a number of vessels (approx 12) will fire a combined Royal salute of 2 guns at 1300 from their respective anchorages in the eastern Solent. This will be repeated at 1300 on the 28 June when they will all fire a 21 Gun Salute.
6. Finally mariners are reminded that the Son et Lumiere event on the evening of 28 June (LNTM 31/05 refers) will contain its own special sound effects.

You're only jealous Pete, cos the gunfire and smoke will drown out the "special effects" of OS on the move.

Burrow Island is on the charts... It kinda protects Clarence Marina from the wake caused by the Police launches as they speed around the harbour.. tbh, I always thought it was called Weevil Island..

As for the all the 21 gun salutes the Invincible is gonna undertake, does it have that amount of blank ammunition?? Or are the sailor boys all going to shout bang??

I thought it was called RAT Island as the POW barges were mored up against it and when a POW died they would just lob them off and let the rats eat them.

Rat Island it is, or was.. Linky.. Quite a sight at low tide, with the railway line going from the mainland to it.. Bet a few have come a cropper on that when it's covered..

Hahaha

Looks like it will be a noisy few days ...stock up on the aspirin.

Having seen the good ole bomb squad lose a trailer and a RIB just behind this building : putting a hole in the ground and knocking a sign down (no passers-by luckily!) encouraging them to shout 'Bang!' may not be such a bad idea
