I've just tested my new spotlight in the dark is WOW it's powerful! If anyone can't spot me it's becasue they'll be blinded by the light. Hopefully I have a good chance of spotting them now....Just got to worry about the weather now

We may stay down the Eastern Solent...to get views of boats and fireworks.

That way our crew will get a balance of seeing what's going on and having some breaks/variety!

Will check the weather though as if it's grotty there's no point being on the water all day.

Could be difficult arranging meet - ups & could be messy out there but if anyone's leaving from Pompey, by all means give us a shout. (Certainly not keen on an after-dark/after-fireworks trundle home with the range of craft that may be involved.

There might be grain of truth in what Tim M's matelot friend says about the weather. A few forecasts that I'm watching suggest that there may be "some" rain about on Monday & Tuesday.

Regarding spot lights. One quick thought occurs to me - probably not a good idea to go shining a powerfull light directly at the offending boat heading towards you. You don't really want to be in the path of a boat being helmed by someone who's just had the back of his eyeballs toasted by 1 million candle power 'cause he won't be seeing anything at all for at least a minute....... Far better to either illuminate your boat or sweep the light from side to side but low down.

Also, after the fireworks finish there will be a lot of boats blatting about with no nav lights on (if the run home from the Cowes fireworks each year is anything to go by) so best to make sure your boat is lit up like a Xmas tree - at least there is a chance that they might just see you......

If anyone shines a light in my eyes I will be very unhappy.

Just think what it is like when some twit forgets to dip his headlights.

Human eyes work well in low light conditions (not pitch dark) and exposing them to any white light kills your night vision considerably for several minutes.

Of course they need to be used sensibly. Like most things if used properly they can be a good and safe aid. If abused they become annoying and dangerous.

It takes 20 mins minimum to get your night sight. And that means no white light at all for that period.

A few boats are meeting at Port Solent 9.30 am Tues. then leaving the harbour for a good vantage point.

After reading of all the problems anticipated in going home in the dark I am seriously considering camping out on the boat until first light.
Having never been to Priory Bay I assume it is inaccessible apart from by sea?
Is it viable to beach our boat and camp out on the beach?
