Suggest me a sailing club rescue boat.

My sailing club is looking for a new rescue boat.

They've got a couple of 6m Tornados with 60hp 4 strokes and a couple of 4m Jeanneau plastic boats with 15hp 2 strokes.

They want something in between to use in the river and also for some Solent duties.

Probably, but not limited to the following:

5.0 to 5.8m
50hp or 60hp
New, or a couple of years old or older but VERY good condition.
Must have, or be able to have fitted a towing post in the stern.

Must be a 4 stroke and not too old.

Budget probably suggests a used boat and a figure of £13k has been suggested. I thought there'd be loads of choice but perhaps i'm not looking properly.

Doesn't need a trailer as will be kept afloat.
Whole budget doesn't need to be spent.
Open to suggestion over budget for truly outstanding candidates.

Suggestions please.

That boat has the most uncomfortable console known to mankind! I borrowed it for Burnham Week last year and it was a long week!

Seriously though a 4.8 is a bit small for a club rescue boat. Try nudging over 5m if the budget allows.

I know nothing about whether they are any good or not but the VSR range were supposedly developed working with the RYA for sailing coaching so may be worth a look?

Hi Chris,

I would recommend a searider - but trying to find a newish one is tricky.

Ribcraft and ribtec 585 also perfect - but again finding one with a smallish 4 stroke is proving difficult.

Like I said, never seen one but there was an article in the comics about them a year or two back, seem to be mainly designed to offer an economical solution to chasing wafi's with only a fairly small motor.
