Stupid boy, why did you drill a hole there?

Hi, as per title I have been trying to drill a hole in the deck for my underfloor trunking. The hole is now useless as the deck trunking enters in the deck floor in the middle of the deck at the transom end and was going to come out at the side of the deck and up through the console but obviously I have now realized I can't do this because of the parallel structures inside the hull supporting the deck(like joists in the house!) and am now having to drill a 2nd hole in the middle of the deck

This redundant hole / useless hole will be inside the console (so should be dry) and I am thinking about sealing the wood and leaving the hole for ventilation / drainage for any water or fuel which may get in there.

However my question is if water was to get into hull through this hole would the water be trapped in this far chamber or is there drain holes in these joist structures to allow water to flow between chambers?

It probably wont be much use to leave it open because the stringer may be sealed and run the length of the hull ... and even if it isnt .. the venting ability will be worse for the boat than having an open hole letting water in if you get swamped, I'd seal it with the core and some resin to make the job good

put 125 mm starret in the other cutter and drill out put 4 inch cap on it did say buy some mini trunking check this

There's a button on my dril that has an arrow pointing the other way from normal... I thought it would undo my drilling but it doesn't seem to work ;-)

Hi ade, I had already bought the 3" trunking when u mentioned the mini trunking so not ignoring your advice. I will cap it tomorrow

just for the rexcord there are drain down bits between section simmilar to this
glass it back up any way, or fit a small round hatch,,

no need - all holes on ribs can be undrilled using duck tape.

Thanks Ed, looks like I will be spending the morning covering up my cock ups -

Drilled an 86mm hole at the transom end and tried to feed that 3" suction pipe down the hole but there isn't much room / tight bend. Look like I will be drilling a bigger hole at the console end and will be feeding the pipe down that end but not looking forward to this to be honest
