Guess its got something to do with the fact that most harbours are confined spaces. Aren't we always getting told to slow down because wash causes erosion of the shore and knocks the moored boats about a lot.

The only time I think it can be justified is in the saving of life or property. Not because the erks want to get to the cookhouse quicker.

in the bomb team we had dispensation to blue light and make "appropriate progress" without interference from the traffic police subject to certain criteria. Military drivers (response, escort or diplomatic) have the same dispensation. That's not guessing biggles, its fact.

I would put military readiness above saving property but each to their own.

Now you mention the Blue light. Those guys on the fast craft weren't showing a blue light were they ?

And even then the use of a blue light only shows other people that you are responding to an emergency. It doesn't allow you to break the law. Speeding or otherwise. Its got to be for a reason. Not just for swanning around. FACT.

Been there done that !!!!!!!!!!!

Just because no one gets reported for it doesn't mean its lawful. The Judge and the job will throw the book at you if you get it wrong.

A lot of this myth around the blue light is down to the general publics ignorance.

That would be done out in the open sea or other military training area specifically designated for that purpose. Trust me the Military isn't full of cowboys and will not want to put civilian lives at risk or upset them.
As I said I doubt that covers blasting through Poole Harbour. Poole is one of those long trek harbours and boring to travel through especially if the boat has to go all the to the top of the harbour. You can see why they do it but it isn't for any other factor than expediency.

There again maybe they did have to respond to something at the top of the harbour.

You asked how different rules can apply to civilians and the military on the motorway and alleged that I was guessing - I gave you two examples. One with blue light, one without. Incidently,the blue light does give you a degree of immunity from certain legislation in appropriate circumstances - I have the DCI sat in front of me if you want clarification.

My orginal question to you was how do you know that the speed at which they were travelling was unjustified after you stated that there "was no reason why they should be doing that". You didnt answer this, but in your last thread have assumed that they could have been "swanning around" or in a rush to get scran. So, why are you so sure that there is no legitimate reason for them "speeding"?
