Strange Catamaran in cardigan

Hi some one on a sailing website posted this
"Saw a TV documentary the other day and they were filming a ferryman going up and down the river in Cardigan in Wales. I kept seeing a cat that was dragged up on the bank and want to know more...

It looks about 40' with arched composite beams. Could be an old Formula 40 or a project that was never finished

You can see it on google earth just off St Dogmaels Rd on the south side of the estuary. If I was techno enough, i would post a picture! Perhaps someone will oblige.

Always nice to know the history of these machines"
bet someone on hear knows about it, am very interested by it lol.
thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

that's an old image you are looking at....the Cat was lost to the sea when it floated off end of July last year.....see below from local rag at the time.....

"The Cardigan owner of a giant catamaran that disappeared from its anchorage near Poppit Sands a fortnight ago and was spotted a few days later drifting off the Irish coast, has been told the vessel has perished at sea.

Paul Welch built the 24 metre Amanda Jane on the River Teifi and after successful sea trials anchored the vessel at Ceibach, but when he returned a few hours later there was no sign of it.

At the weekend Belfast Coastguards informed him that ships had reported spotting parts of the catamaran off the Isle of Man.

A bitterly disappointed Paul said "The cat obviously broke up at sea and unfortunately there was nothing I could do about it.

"I am considering building a trimaran, but I have not made any decision as yet," he said."

It was the strangest looking thing and the build had been ongoing for a very long time.....then one day it turned up moored off Poppit in front of our station and later broke free.....

Do a 'google' on it and you'll get some more background...

Hope that helps.

Dan
