Stidd Special Mission Seat on eBay

I just placed a Stidd Special Mission Seat on the US eBay site for auction. The item number is 2456285230 if you have an interest. Here's a picture of what a new one looks like, but the one for auction is used military surplus and will need reconditioning. These are often used in US military Special Warfare RIBs.

The Ebay page is here.

"The manufacturer's price for a new seat is $14,500"

Holy mackerel...

This thing looks like an fighter ejector seat.
Good for complaining passengers wouldn't you say?

BTW what is the weight of this baby?
Are the joysticks functional? or are they just grabhandles?

The boat deck should need a fair amount of reinforcement to take the loads.

Seats

Sunrider, you are selling stuff you haven't examined by yourself? You don't know if the seats are absolutely useless or in normal state? I understand there's a risk in buying things from auction without seeing products by yourself, but buying something that even the seller haven't seen....really dangerous. Something like 1000-1500 US$ might be still suitable offer though with risk. Stidd seats are very technical and require a lot of special parts for refurb, so if you want a proper seat, buy new one. For some kind of like "project" this used seat might be suitable.

Tango, handles you see are just grab handles, nothing more. When you drive VERY fast your crew need them. The components in Stidd seats and ejection seats are similar, I have worked with fighter planes (including F/A-18) and Stidd seats, so I have compared the systems by myself. It's not just imagination, the feeling in the both seats are also pretty similar: when bound tightly, you know you soon will go fast!

You're absolutely right about the risk involved in buying without seeing the item, so I paid a price appropriate to the risk. The starting price on that eBay sale was an opportunity for someone else to share the risk at a very good price, but no takers.

The seats arrived here and it turns out I was lucky, they are in near new condition - just sold one last week to cover my costs and a little profit.

I used another type of Stidd seat for ocean crossings in a RIB and it was fantastic - in fact it was the only comfortable thing on the boat! I saw these models at a boat show several years ago and have been looking for an opportunity to get one ever since.

Stidd has an option to replace one or both of the grab handles with joy sticks for jet drives - that's my next objective....should be very functional and fun.

Seats

Nice to hear your seats are in good condition. Stidd seats are absolutely great piece of equipment, only the price is a bit high to be used outside military projects. Still, US$ 15 000 is just right price when you look at the system you get.
