Yep

I have a cheap MP3 player in the glove compartment connected to a cheap car AMP in the console via its headphone socket.
Then a pair of proper marine speakers set in the console.
No moving parts to bounce around etc.

Nick, beware the ebay bathroom speakers as many are 8 ohm, not the 4 ohm ones you'll need with a car Amp based system.

If you want cheapish the Marine AV own make speakers are about £45. They are pretty large, waterproof and actually don't sound too bad unless your WOT.

We've got the 4" version. They seem alright apart from one of the grills falling off from time-to-time.
