Steering - what's broken here ?

After a 3 hour drive to Pwthelli yesterday it was only on the slipway I discovered the steering wasn't as it should be .......

Symptoms - steering wheel just turns freely with no movement on the engine. The cable hasn't broken. There is too much excess cable appearing from the helm and curling around in the locker !

Any suggestions please ?

Your inner cable sounds like its broken, if it has you'll need a new steering cable.

If the whole cable, inner & outer, is coming in & out when you turn the wheel then whatever fixes the outer cable in position on your steering head has fallen out or broken.

Yeah it's the best that it doesn't happen on the water.

Well done you! Just shout if you need any help when fitting it.
