Steepest Slipway

I shall post my picture tomorrow, we need a horizon in the shot.
I reckon I have a shot of the steepest slip.

Reckon it has to be qualified by a vehicle launching AND recovering a trailer. Otherwise it's a pointless challenge.

I don't know, we used to have to launch & Recover on a pretty steep slipway.

I'll see if i can dig out a photo

Well if it's a concreted slope into the water that has been designed to launch boats then it's a slip. Whether it's unusable is another matter. The one I shall photograph and post tomorrow is astonishing, you could bungee off it.

Charlestown has an impossible slipway. Never used it or seen it used, complete with a huge drop off the end of around 4-6ft

I don't think it's in use though - last time I was there we dived it - great little dive and a pig of a walk back up.

I'm guessing the boat was cradle launched and winched up~?

Don't people launch and recover off of harbour walls? Not a slipway as such but it's vertical which is quite steep I believe

Exactly. I think we need the steepest slip that a rig launches from. Now winching or dropping in, it's just not cricket!

I think the steepest I have ever used was at Duck Bay on Loch Lomond in the 90's, its very short (the cars back wheels dont even touch the slip) but it must be at least 45 Degrees. Sorry no photos.

Steepest I have used with a big boat is Penmarlam Quay, near Fowey. Its down an incredibly steep access road to start with and the slip gets even worse. The picture doesn't do it justice, but that's a trailer for a 23ft boat, its completely submerged and the cars wheels are no where near the water.

The beach I launch from is about the same at some states of tide as the pic in #18 but I fail to see how any open boat can launch from anything much steeper. The Vipermax is OK with its higher transom but the Humber, if there were any sort of waves coming against the transom, used to take a fair amount of water on board. Anything steeper would just make it fill up and/or submerge the engine because of the trailer holding the bow right up.

Wasn't/isn't Charlestown up for sale? You could buy it and offer RIBnutters discounts on everything including holiday cottages
