Good on you I say and I hope your parents respect the fact you have saved yourself over a period of time and help you out if they can further to enable you to get out on the water!

You've added a good 20 years onto Chewy there

Have to say I agree. If the lads got the money or the will to save the money good on him.

You can't blame your parents for not letting you get a RIB just yet (severncoxswain I mean, not chewy ) I know if one of my lads wants to go out on their own when they are in their early teens it will be a no go subject.
Besides, he'd have to fight me for his RIB back!

Difficult I suppose to know what age is right. My bro was 14 and I 12 when we were let loose in eye shot, ie about 2 mile, in an 11ft dory with 15hp. We had been on water since tiny though and parents generally on another boat or in pub keeping an eye out. We were pretty good kids though I suppose and only allowed when calm.

I was 16 when allowed out on 15ft dory with 75hp on my own(with friend).

Is there a legal limit?? (new thread)

In eye shot is different yeah. I'm looking forward to them getting into boats.

Legal age? Don't think there is but there should be. RIB's are bit like motorbikes, majority of owners are time served members of the over the hill club and the most dangerous. So I set set the legal limit at 17 and cap it at 60. Rougewave, give me the keys!

Not jealous or middle age, you cheeky git!

What I'm getting at is we've gone from a twin engined RIB to a SR4 and now back to a bigger RIB.
In a previous thread he had £4000 to buy a twin engined RIB, then he wanted a RIB with a 4 stroke on.

If he actually tells us exactly how much he has to spend and what he wants from a boat we might be able to help. Otherwise it feels as though I p!ssing into the wind.

I've just had my SR4 out and it would be a great starter boat to learn on.

My life expentancy isn't looking very good if I'm middle aged now so I may as well give you some abuse now... I'll be dead before JK finds out and bans me!

middle aged

Thinking about it, never mind legal age to drive a boat, what is middle aged?

I'm 32, i'm gonna say 40-55, then you are old, pensions can be drawn and all that.

Cue disagreement!! How old are you Chewy?
