im begining to return to the faithfull sr4 i have had a history with the sr4 when i was 10 we riped out the seats and canopay and put a yamaha 8hp tiller and blocked off the flooding floor the thing planed on that set up but then some things happend over a winter and the sr4 was no more

anyway recently i have been prepareing for a full on refit of a sr4 i know we have 2 very poor conditon examples up in the field one old school with the 4 seats and a old rescue sr4 with a console and a much more substatule fiberglass hull but i beleve the tooooobs are buggered on both anywho i desided to work on getting engine first rather than the boat due to space so i managed to get a a proper jem and for nothing aha i got me a suzuki 40 hp longshaft 2t it took a few days to get running but its all fine and i have just finished a full servce and heres it running

its even electric start so whats your oppinions on that for a set up ok?

Did you really get one on the plane with an 8HP?

Im looking at getting one that needs a good clean and a polish and thinking of putting a 25HP on for a while, with a view to getting something a bit bigger after a summer or two with the 25, I can only imagine one with a 40 would be plenty, 30+knots i'd expect....

yes it was no speed demion but with two 10year olds and a fuel tank and with a pluged up flooded floor it planed i will see if i can find a photo

Awesome! reminds me of my first inflatable, and might have even given me the kick I need to commit and actually buy the SR4 I mentioned earlier!

okey dokie i went up to see the two sr4s that are up at the storage for where i work and just gave them a once over and drained the water i was also going to pump them up but turns out both had foot pumps without hoses so that was a no no :L but it was nice to see what i had to work with. first is my original sr4 which i used with a tiller yam 8 the old school style without the jocky seat which im praying the tubes are ok on (fingers crossed) the second is a later ex sailing school boat wich i know the tubes are shot the baffels are gone and sutch but the hull is much thicker at the transome and not rotton also the console is there and original so the plan is to take the console from that one and transfere it to the older one if the tubes are ok bu here are the pictures of them both any potental ??

I wouldnt assume the one with the water in's tubes are shot-it's inflated and it obviously doesn't let water in. Baffles are repairable, though it's not easy apparently. Probably easier than doing a tube swap though.

It should have a solid GRP transom on that one if my memory is correct, it's a lot newer than the other.

The other one look like it's had a new deck in at some point, but the height suggests to me that it's been laid over the old rotten deck.

i havent presumed i dug it out during the winter as my boss wanted to sell it i steam cleaned it and pumped it up but only stayed infated for mins and all inflated in one go so the baffles were gone and he said its not worth repairing it so it got put back up in the corner

Find the leaks, then decide.
Holes are patchable, baffles are fixable and valves can be replaced.

The old one's deck doesn't look like the original deck at all, though that might be the angle. However, if you use those tubes you'll need to change all the valves. I suspect that one's early 1970s from the valve type in it.

can seems be repaired as the bow tube leeks on the seem near the hull
on the newer boat

Yes, though I've never done it. I've heard of people opening seams to repair baffles.

Unless the same person has replaced the deck, I'm looking at one and the deck looks the same as your older model,it's not something I'd be worried about compared to the rotting transom you mentioned...

yeah im a bit worryed about that as the tubes are good on that one bar two of the valves leek a little

The later one has a moulded floor with moulded transom supports.

I wouldn't worry about the floor having been replaced on an earlier one, unless it's laid on top of the rotten old floor.

However, if the transom's rotten you can bet the floor wants doing as well.

Have a go at fixing the tubes it's already got on it. You won't lose anything and if it works, you've got a spare set of tubes off the other one.
