sr4 outboard change
Hi all
We are in the process of changing engines on my son’s sr4 and would appreciate some advice on fitting, it still has the original four seat back to back layout which is ok for the moment .We are fitting a mercury 35 hp with power trim / tilt and as the footprint of the mounting bracket is larger we will need to replace the ply board on the transom, so is it best to fit the engine central or do we have to offset it and if so by how much ?
Thanks

Where was the original mounted? I know on the SR5.4's they offset the engines.
Both engines I've had have been mounted in the centre on ym SR4.

You need at least a 50hp on an SR4.

I'm working my way down to that, started with a 60hp and now down to 55hp!

The old engine was a Yamaha 50 (white band on cowling) which does seem to have been fitted off centre to the right. The main reason for changing is the 50 is too heavy for my son (13) to lift, the trim/tilt on the mercury will allow him to be far more adventuress with beaching etc. Iam sure the 35 will have enough power as I want him to have fun without going to mad and with the 50 anything over ¾ throttle made the boat chine hop

Do you need to re-drill the transom for the mounting bolts for the Merc 35? If not, then I'd be inclined to use the same holes.
What age is the Merc?

Where did you find a 35hp mercury with PTT? I didn't know they even made one.

new holes will have to be drilled as bracket is larger due to the trim /tilt motors and it is an 87 model but in very good condition
