I've never had any dealings with Wolf Rock n don't know anything about them, but I doubt very much they would be selling stolen boats!

I'd be wary of buying a used SR4 from a dealer.

I'm not saying WR are immoral/crooks or anything like that.

However, in order for any dealer to make a profit on somethng as entry level as an SR4 you'll be paying a massive markup on the private sale price of such a boat. You should get a limited warranty but it's not going to be worth a lot if you live in Coventry.

I guess they should be able to provide some history of ownership to put your mind at rest, no such thing as a cheap boat, just if its value for money!! hope you like the SR4

Transom has been messed with (an SR4 transom doesn't have a raised bit...curious as to why thats been done) and the description about 'transom needs a plate' suggests that it's not healthy at all. I'd suspect the floor probably isn't good either as it's got a different console in.

The trailer wheels look like the bearings are shot as well.

It MIGHT be worth doing, but that definitely isn't a ready to roll boat. Be prepared to invest some serious time into it,and don't go paying anything towards it til you've closely inspected it.

Agree the transom looks weird, it should be straight across on an SR4. Looks like it might have been raised to accommodate an XL shaft outboard in the past?? The Yam 50 looks like a long shaft though so needs careful checking. Steering bar rusty?
Stainless A frame, nice mitering and welding but bin it!

The trailer looks like an old Snipe with half leafsprings and not Indespension units which is probably why the wheels are tilted and not the bearings.

Hull has been painted white (transom is in original orange) make sure it's not hiding any bodyfiller repairs! Check under the bows area where the hull meets the tube flange for gel coat cracking and worse. Common to see damage and shoddy repairs here on SR4's.

Tubes are original and don't look too bad. You can just see where the dash and bow apron have been removed from when it had front seats before the console was fitted. Make sure the hypalon isn't threadbare, damaged or leaking. Good time to look is first thing on a cold morning when the seller haven't had chance to pump them back up.

Ideally take someone who knows Seariders with you or be prepared to carry on spending lots of time and money getting this sorted over winter.

Otherwise enjoy!

yeh i`ve read seariders suffer with both ,the yam is leaking from the thermostat housing too ,i took this as a plus sign as he was honest enough to mention it ,they have serviced the engine and changed the impellor too
i`ve been stung paying my money upfront before so if it`s gone this weekend despite our gentlemens agreement (though he did want money to hold it) then c`est la vie
i will tell them the boat must be ready to roll as regards to the bearings as it will be a near 300 mile round trip

i dont mind a bit of graft though i`ll be sad to see the s.i.b go ... strange i started off wanting a rubber dinghy with a 2.5 hp ..where will it all end

i seem to remember a bit more than a 300 round trip to Scotland to pick my SR4 up, then just as long a trip down to the Sth coast to pick the trailer up, worth the effort though and that was just the start of it, Mike at Osprey has been busy so far

You're trying to cram a quart into a pint pot there!

I visited them this summer on a week end road trip while looking for our new boat, they don't normally open on a week end but opened so I could look at a boat that they had. They came across up front and genuine , I didn't get our boat from them only on budget.

Jeff.

sounds like a plan

I agree with a lot of what has been said re the pics of the SR4, what to be aware of etc, but at the end of the day it's got to be your decision, is it right for you? I was very lucky when I found mine, the guy was dead straight, the tubes were shot, so I knew all I was buying was a solid hull, deck n transom, no engine n no trailer, but that's what I wanted. you just need to balance up what Wolf Rock are asking with what you see when you get there, is the trailer any use at all, is the engine worth having, how good are the tubes and how much work is involved with the transom. and will the do a deal, you are there, cash in hand, take it away etc, end of the season n all that, my guess would be they don't really want an old SR4 on their yard, so you may well get a good deal

I would completely agree with Chris, keep remembering they probably want rid of it more than you want it.

Wolf Rock are alright in terms of it being stolen, mate of a mate owns it and I met him a couple of years ago at the SBS. Its my view that they do not deal in dodgy stock.

Go down there and bargain hard to get yourself a good deal and then tell us how you got on.

Good luck.

I think Cookee is pretty local to them, might be worth asking if he'd have a look?
Not sure if he's busy racing at the moment though?
