Splicing Rope to Anchor Chain...

Does anyone have any instructions/pics on how to splice 3-strand nylon rope, either (a) directly onto anchor chain, or (b) into an eye so that I can shackle it to the end of the anchor chain?

I've had a quick look round on here and on the www - can't seem to find any obvious instructions.........

I'd be grateful for any help!!

Cheers,

Dylan...

Try these
http://www.samsonrope.com/home/recma...cing/index.cfm
http://www.alpharubicon.com/prepinfo/eyesplicingeli.htm
http://www.btinternet.com/~arb_excha...t_3splice.html
(i used this one and got it right first time )

Have fun doing, then undoing, then doing, then undoing. Then tying a bow line

Ah...the bowline...

Thanks for that guys. I suspect that my abilities with rope are somewhat lacking - I'll see how I get on!!

I think that Samson Rope site will have to feature on the "links" page of our web site, Tue

When I was a lad, my wee scout handbook showed how to do splicing and whipping (of rope ), so there's a possible link for you too.

C'mon guys, splicing regular 3 plaid rope aint exactly hard! all the fenders on my boat have the correct length of rope spliced on, and when I can be bothered I always back splice the end of ropes as it looks nice, now if an oul hardboat nobber can splice his own ropes, I'm sure any of you 'dib-dib-dib' lot ought to able to, it really aint johnny rocket science, is it!

Oooh, well done Johnny! Hey, I heard a rumour that your fenders are now decorated with fairy and leprechaun picures!

It's true! I'm really turning rather camp. If it carries on like this, I could well end up buying a rib

Well it's all done in the best possible taste!

Yes I was looking to catch gArfie in our jet intake but it was a bit too rough out there yesterday for him. Billy is very nearly right but we still have to find another 500 revs but it's very smooth nowadays which is a relief.

where were you!

After Jonny's comments I took a look at the links provided by Tue, and last evening spent a few hours splicing ropes for my boat, and I am well pleased with my self! Everything was tied on with a bowline, now I have neat splices which do look the business. It also got me away from sheathing my console which is proving more difficult than I imagined, but thats another thread!

Splicing...

I have to agree with JF - not that difficult. Tues links made it v.easy, and I think I got it right first time - it looks good and even the thimble is in nice and tight.

Now that it's attached to the anchor chain, I'll have to see how it fares!!

Cheers for all the pointers!!

Dylan...

P.S. If anyone sees a blue tube/white hull Ribcraft 7.8 floating past with a length of three strand nylon rope attached, but nowt else - give me a call - please!!
