Very true Alan.
They may all be sold by the time the ribsters come to Cardiff for the send-off week-end and are thinking of buying them then.

You have said that 7 RIBs plus POB are coming to Penarth.
Would it be a good idea to list them here so:
1. We can see if "we" are included (or have been missed)
2. Pour encourager les autres-just the mere fact that Keith Hart plus the world's smallest SIB will be attending should encourage AT LEAST 22 more Ribsters to attend!

Blimey - This thread has grown during the week I've been on Holiday.

There are quite a few questions about launching. On this side of the channel there is Portishead Marina - as mentioned - or from Bristol floating harbour - which brings be onto my second point.......

If anybody would like to stay on the Pride of Bristol on the Friday night in Bristol harbour and then accompany us accross the channel to Cardiff on Saturday morning then they would be more than welcome! You could leave you Car/trailer at Bristol marina - this is where I launch my RIB. I can find out costs if anyone is interested

We are currently repairing a RIB that we inherited from the St Johns Ambulance - if its ready for Easter then we will "RIB" it accross

Keith - Plenty of space on deck to Blow-up your SIB - we then have a hydralic hoist to lower it over the side - have you found somewhere to stay yet? This could be your chance to meet GOD

See you all soon!

Jools

We are booked to stay on POB Saturday night - but were planning to arrive in Cardiff Friday - and had started looking for accommodation.

Your idea of staying over in Bristol, then following you to Cardiff on Saturday sounds great.

I would be grateful if you could let me know further details - cost / security of leaving the car and trailer in Bristol, Cost of launching / recovery (and what this entails - how big the slip is etc). I note from the boatlaunch site info that you also have to purchase a river license to go through the lock. Is this expensve?

Also exactly where the Marina is etc - and what length (approx) the journey is across the water to Cardiff.

I guess we would follow you back on Sunday?

Is the marina /launch site close to where POB is?

Wow - seems like a lot to ask - hope this is OK.

That's fine with me! I can send you the Windows fonts that are used if you need them, or a high res tiff of the logo if you'd prefer.

*****NEWS FLASH*****NEWS FLASH******NEWS FLASH*****
(nothing like keeping you lot in suspense all day)

There has been a new deal struck for all you lot comming to Cardiff for the SOC send off week / week-end.

Our HQ will now be The Cardiff Bay Yacht Club.
(pls see http://www.cbyc.co.uk/ for general info)

£15.00 flat rate gets you use of the facilities all week-end (fri -sun); unlimited / reasonable launching/ recovery on the two slipways for your boats (Keith, I was adv you just blew yours up!); berthing(although this may be in the form of some reefing together), trailer storage, and car parking.Facilities include the showers and toilets and the club house.
We have negotiated that all boats will pay this rate, irregardless of their size!, day of arrival, and length of stay. This is a first class place and for value for money 100%
Jools, the POB has space there too, although it does not have elect. hook up on the pontoons, do you require this?
For the Sat all the action and the Waterfront pub is still on the other side of the Bay, and there may be a small fee on top of the £15.00 for mooring there - this is under negotiations at the present, and I will keep you updated.
(now, my house is literally down the road from the CBYC)
Pls adv if more accomodation info is required - will add more info soon anyway.
Please, please, still adv ME if you are attending the SOC do, and your boat and arrival and departure details (I will be in direct contact with the club, and thus keep them informed)

Hope this makes sense and gives you the incentive to launch in Cardiff - at this bargain price - and bring your boats either by water or by road.

6 weeks minus 2 days to go!

ps. sorry about the change of plans, but you must admit with this deal, everyone is a winner.

Timings of launching and recovery.
The club is quite happy for you guys to do your own stuff, and does not require that they supervise you at this!

Thus, you may find it usefull to know that they open their gates at 08:00 and shut about 22:00 / 23:00 when the bar staff go home. The closing time may vary slightly - depending on how busy the bar is)

Way to go Nadia!!!

That sounds like an excellent deal Nadia. Somehow I don't think you'll be short of people to buy you drinks on the Sat night!

On behalf of "team cyanide" as I say we'll need 9.5m for berthing an no launching if the weather is good and 6.5m and launching if the weather is bad! (And before anyone asks, Cyanide is not retractable, if the weather is too bad for the passage around from Devon we'll be coming by car and bringing my boat!)

Cheers,
Alan

STICKERS

I have produced the first batch of 'Spirit Sendoff' stickers and they appear to be okay. Well, at least mine is still stuck to the inside of my windscreen.

Right then here is the deal.

Anyone who is going to see 'Spirit' off from Cardiff on the weekend of 30/31 March 2002, can have TWO free window stickers. All you have to do is email me directly at stickers@blackhart.co.uk I will then send you the stickers by post FOC. So please include YOUR POSTAL ADDRESS.

If you are there for the party, you can buy the crew a drink, if you see me on Sunday, I'll have a BACON ROLL!

Cheers

Keith (see y'all soon) Hart

Keith send me a couple of stickers just in case I forget who I am!
Anybody know a high ranking Naval Officer in Russia? I have been organising the Kamchatska stop the past couple of days and they want to charge me $1280.00 just to enter the harbour!!

(unless some wants to buy 170 miles)

Never again will I say that Cowes is expensive

Nadia................

more sterling effort on the organisational front, well done!

BTW Alan Winnett and Alan from Maldon are one and the same! I am thinking of changing my name to avoid confusion (although I was the first "Alan" to post on rib.net I think! )

I am not sure whether "team Cyanide" will arrive Friday or Sat. It will all depend on the weather and whether(sic) we do the run around from Torquay in a day or break the trip somewhere in the middle.

Consequently I may not be around to organise any cruising Saturday. Any volunteers!?

BTW Is there a speed limit in Cardiff bay inside the barrage?

Cheers,
Alan
