Spiral cable wrap/binding

I have a thick (~2.5" dia) bundle of cables on my RIB that I want to protect and tidy up so I was looking for a length, probably ~5 metres, of the largest available spiral cable binding. None of the chandlers around here seem to sell it. So I went online and found this. Perfect - 1" ID and (aptly) 'ribbed' for extra strength (and pleasure? ). Except when I called about the price, I got a bit of a shock - £45/metre (apparently they sell it for aerospace applications).

Then I found this - 12.7mm OD at £30 for 30 metres. Good enough but I don't need 30 metres.

So - I thought - Barnet Marine. Called them up and yes - they will sell by the length at £5/ft - so my 5 metres would come to ~£80

So I've gone back to www.toolboxshop.com and ordered the 30 metre coil (in black).

Now I won't need more than 5 metres so I have 25m available to pass on to RIBnet members, which I'm happy to do at £2/metre incl. postage (or £30 if anyone wants to take the whole lot).

Oh - and if Lawrence (Barnet Marine) reads this, I don't mind paying for stuff but >1600% mark-up is a bit steep.

Thanks for your bids guys. This is public response including to peeps who pm'd me.

I haven't got the stuff yet so I'll post again when it arrives. Then if you could pay by paypal to ebay@spring-uk.net that would be easiest.

Oh, and send me your postal address (if not already done) by pm.

I have bids for 13m so far so there's 12m left (depending on how much I use). First come, first served. Just post your bids on the public board for now.

I dunno. At £1/metre I don't really care if it has to be replaced after a year or two.

Guys - the spiral wrap has arrived and looks just the job. I have also (for Jelly) spoken to the manufacturer and confirmed it is fuel and oils resistant and UV stable.

I have the following orders so far:

Chewy - 3m
JSP - 5m
Blackroady - 5m
Steve Waters - 10m
Total - 23m

I obviously need to make sure I have enough for myself which I should be able to do this w/e. Then I may keep a couple of metres spare but the rest is available to the above or others if any of the above don't go ahead.

Please send Paypal (preferably) payment at £2/metre to ebay[at]spring-uk.net. If you cannot do Paypal, call me on 07836 762788. Also send me your mailing details by pm or use the above email address.

May or may not be applicable, but dive gear that comes in to my local dive shop for service that has this stuff on the reg hoses quite often shows high wear (abrasion) where the edge of the spiral wrap sits. In extreme cases, it has worn the rubber coating through to the fabric reinforcement.

Granted, reg hoses will move a lot more than the rigging of an engine, and will probably be exposed to higher levels of sand and such, but it may still be worth keeping an eye on. Not hard to do: pick a spot and slide the wrap sideways a bit and look for abrasion marks.

Good spiral wrap supplier

I recently needed some wrap too, found a good supplier on Ebay, seller is -autojungle - http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/autojungle/
They do 3 sizes, 5 -50mm at £3.55 for 10 metres, 15-80mm at £5.55 for 10 metres and 25-130mm at £10.95 again for 10 metres, very reasonable postage too. I got some of each, paid on Monday, it arrived Tuesday morning, well pleased!

Yes, you wouldn't want to run out a quarter of the way through the job.
