spare engine on sr4

Hi all, does anybody have a spare small outboard motor fixed on transom of their sr4? My sr4 has 40hp 2 stroke yam as main engine, doesnt seem to be a lot of room for an auxillary motor...

I managed to get an old Evinrude 2hp 2 stroke-the type with a single clamp screw- on the transom of my old one.It did about 3 knots. You may manage a 4hp if you've got no A-frame, but measure carefully before you pay for one.

Thanks for your reply mate! i have a silver century seagull with the high torque prop (really?!) and im confident it would push me home if the main engine were to fail.
Mine does have an A frame for navi lights and vhf aerial, it would be a very tight squeeze and thats without usng the tiller!
I havnt noticed many other sr4 with an auxillary motor, maybe its just too tight with the frame on?!

A silver century would probably push you home while towing a canal barge behind as well

Unfortunately with Seagulls though, the tilt 'mechanism' isn't up to being bounced up and down on a rib unless you do something with it and the Silver Century has a wide tank so it's unlikely to fit.

My little 2hp Evinrude was one of these:-

Note that the transom clamp bracket is a lot smaller than any others and only has one central clamp.

I'm getting SR4 envy now. I might have to get another one. I still miss mine.

This is my set up have not tried it on the water yet but I cannot see any problems,
I have used a piece of wood and a strap to make the whole thing secure for both towing and at sea this makes it all very stable
I am getting nearly full lock on the main engine,

The aux is a Tohatsu 3.5 short shaft,
I will be trying it out on the river in two weeks I will let you know how I get on
