Southampton Boatshow 2004

We had a great day at the Southampton Boatshow, it was definitely worth paying that bit extra for attending on preview day, there were not so many people there.

We visited the Rib-X stand, it seems to get more impressive each time we see it, it’s quite clear they intend to become a major player and are now sourcing boats from four manufacturers. On the drawing board are some larger ribs of 8 and 9 metre lengths including cabin versions. There have been some excellent write-ups in the press recently particularly for 640SR (we always told you it was good). The 700SR looked absolutely stunning in its new colour scheme of charcoal and grey. Judging by the interest shown at the show Rib-X should expect to make a lot of sales.

Colin and Martin told us of lots of new plans on the horizon including changes and improvements to seating, consoles and general detailing (I for one loved the logo embroidered on the seat fabric….. very sexy)…….so watch this space.

Chris fell in love with a beautiful lady called ‘Ghost’ no doubt you will see her when you visit a photo is attached.

We met Jon Brooks from Icom who showed us the new 402 radio, it looks like it will be very popular. and The ever friendly Gecko Man!

Kathleen, I have posted a couple of pictures just for you.

We enjoyed it so much we will be going again next Saturday.

Thanks a lot, its just a shame it was so murky, I am not very good at pictures in poor light. I missed the pilot, was it the Honda plane, if it was, I saw him in Cowes Week and he is amazing!

Well went to the SBS yesterday wearing the colours of pontoontalk.co.uk
see photos taken by Steve Stamper on www.pontoontalk.co.uk

anyway not much different then last year's show . What really impressed me most was the Mercury Verado on the Barrus stand. The Verado was probably the only new piece of kit worth looking at. Standing side by side to the 275 model it was just about the same height as me. What a motor. There was also one model installed on one of the boats on the pontoon and when the motor was started you could hardly hear it. Unfortunately did not have the chance of a ride. Will have to wait for David's demo rib for that.

I will be going wednesday afternoon, and at the risk of upsetting some stand holders, will probably wear my Ribnet fleece or t-shirt.
So say Hi if you see me(if its not me it will be another Ribnetter anyway).
I am sorted on the ticket front thanks!
