We want to take our 7.5mts cobra rib to the south of france
(Antibes sort of area) July 2005.
We want to rent an apartment flat etc and heres the tricky bit With a mooring
As any body out there trailed there boat down for the same sort of thing, I looked at length at the Southampton Boat Show but with no results
I have RYA 1&2 Day Skipper ICC VHF Etc.
Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Only part of this I have looked into was the actual ferry crossing - found that the best deal was with Sea France - about £200 if memory serves me right - with the boat!

P+O do specials where the caravan/trailer go free but even so it was still more expensive!

I would say that an appartment with a mooring is virtually impossible in S of F. Make two separate arrangements for the mooring and appartment but ensure the appartment has parking for the trailer as this is likely to be even more difficult to organise.

Roy, it's a good plan and something that more people really ought to consider. You'll be pretty much able to guarantee a good time boating down there.

Your best bet would probably be to start by calling the Antibes tourist office and see what they advise.

If you're not dead set on Antibes you might consider somewhere like St Maxime which will give you easy day trips to places like St Tropez and Port Grimaud. Alan Priddy had his RIB there for a season a few years ago and may be able to help with local contacts.

book the sleazy jet for sometime in early October and take couple of days with a car looking around.

Moorings appear to be at a premium as does parking but because a rib does not have the volume of a similar sized hardboat cruiser you might find people are prepared to fit you in somewhere in a marina.

Another place where flats are likely to have moorings is the Marina Baie des Anges between Nice and Cannes.

I'm currently looking to put my boat there next summer but was looking at secure storage rather than a berth -if I get any further info I'll let you know.

As far as the place is concerned it does offer a fantastic coast line and an extended season due to weather.

I've just got back from a week in Empuriabrava on the Bay of Roses just north of Barcelona this is an ideal location if you are happy to vary your plans slightly from South of France to North of Spain.

When I get sorted I will put some pics and details in the cruising section.

We rented a fantastic villa with pool and mooring. It was great to be able to walk straight out the door and on to the boat through the marina and out to the beach ! The beachs were very quiet and secluded and the diving / snorkelling was fantastic ! I didn't use the car all week as I could go to the supermarket by boat !

We crossed with P&O and trailered the boat down through France leaving Cardiff at 3:30pm on the Friday and got to the Villa at 6:30 pm on the Saturday. It was a heavy drive but well worth it.

I have a mate who rents out a two bedroom apartment just up from St Maxime in the Bay of St Tropaz and central to most things.He will be open to a long term deal if you require. There is a small English speaking marina at the bottom of the road who will be able to look after you. They will keep you afloat when you need to be then lift you out and move the boat inland till you are ready to use it again. The British marina owners could learn a lot from this guy!
