Hi there ,
I am going to the UK at the end of this week to pick up an Osprey Vipermax 7m .
The ferry back to Rotterdam leaves from Hull on Sunday late evening .
So - I have the whole Sunday afternoon to play around with the RIB in this area before it will be prepared next week for winter storage ..
Can somebody recommend a good slipway which does not depend on the tide ?
Or maybe somebody from this area is up for a trip on Sunday ??
Would appreciate any info !

Congratulations on getting the new boat. I am out of the country at the moment or would have driven down just to say hi and sneak a ride.

and a pity that you are out !
I am not only excited to pick up the RIB but also to meet on Saturday with many of the RI guys !
What I learned is that a british RIB tends to return to the UK for special occasions - like the RI this year - so may be see you during the RB

There is a slip on the north side of the Humber under the bridge at Hessle. It's the lifeboat slip for the Humber Rescue. We have launched there before but I wouldn't recommend it, it can be dangerous in an onshore wind. We damaged the boat last time we used it, never again.

The Â£30 annual fee gives you a key to open the locked chain giving access to the hard pebble and sand beach. Launch is possible at all states of the except very low water. Humber Rescue is manned at the weekend during the day. Probably the best launching site in the area.

If you can drop on them when the station is open, which is most weekends, they will let you launch for a donation, but as I said, I wouldn't, especially with a nice new shiny bote.

I'm not sure of your itinerary or how much time you have, but the best launch by far is at Whitby which is 65m (100km ish) from Hull, about 2 hours driving time towing. You can launch into the marina with a good slip & pontoons + plenty of parking. High water at Whitby on Sunday is 09.22 gmt, the tides are very neapy & the slip will be available for most of the tidal range on Sunday. You are safe & sheltered if the weather is snotty & you can chug up & down the river to your hearts content. Don't try & get out of the outer harbour if it's blowing any Easterly over F4. Cost is £22 for launching & parking.

As PD says Whitby is the only place to launch on the east but looking at the weather it's a no no this weekend
Hessle is a big no no
Keep it on the trailer

Many thanks for feedback and advice !
Had a look on the map and Withby is unfortunately a bit far from my route

Seems like I will ending up sitting with a very nice boat on the trailer all Sunday at the sea just watching the waves ..
As for the expected weather - I agree . At the Irish west coast it was always a great feeling to know that other teams and Top Hat with Paul Glatzel were around - regardless of weather or sea condition ..

There are very few publically accessible slips on the Humber. A big tidal range and copious amounts of mud/silt make keeping one maintained a costly affair.
As mentioned, Hessle can be tricky and (looking at Sunday's forecast) will probably end in tears/scraped gelcoat.
Bridlington harbour has a slip, but it's very limited by the tide.
Unless you pay for a lift in/out at Hull marina I don't think you'll get much joy, and even then, you're limited somewhat by the tide.

Just talked to the harbour master of Barrow Haven and he even would not recommend to slip somewhere in this area.
All places are very much influenced by the tide and only for a very limited time accessible ..
I am travelling on my own and it does not sound like fun trying to get a 7.20m RIB in a tidal stream back on the trailer

Always thought how miserable my life is living so far from the coast - but you guys have the water in front of the house but cannot take advantage of it when you feel like

Hi Mike ,
Just looked at the map to consider Whitby .. BUT I guess after long & intensive saturday evening "discussions" not sure I´ll be on time in Whitby - or even at the ferry
