Sorry i haven't the ability to include the link but there's a rebuilt 55 yam on ebay at the moment up in the lakes somewhere and the guys even fitted a power trim/tilt to it from a 75 which is the only thing they lack. Fitted an early 90's 55 on my sr4 2 years back and its been sound!

Hi Gibbo,

That looks fantastic!

The console looks quite high - can you stand up behind it? I have the standard Avon console in mine and it's a bit low to stand up - makes you feel like a very tall jockey on an unruly horse.

You should be able to get some more speed in flat water.

My previous 4m with a 50 yam made about 37 knots.

Duncan

I can stand but as it was quite choppy spent most of the time seated. Being 6'4" i decided on this console as i felt the others were a bit on the short side.

I think i will change the steering wheel as it is rather small and does flex alot.

Was 37 knots with the standard prop with one or two passengers? I had 32.7 with 2 up but hopefully will go faster on calm water if not might have to try a different prop.

Cheers

Cheers

Just had another look at your pics mate. You've done a really nice job!

Is it the steering wheel or the whole thing that is flexing? If it's the whole thing maybe a bit of reinforcement behind the console would sort it.

Out of interest how much sikaflex did it take to fit the console to the deck?

And Chewy will have to get his sorted soon now

John,

It is the steering wheel that flexes, it is a Teleflex but not robust enough when smashing the waves. Also don't get much leverage so will be looking at something slightly bigger. The only problem is i positioned the gauges based on the smaller wheel so might be obscured with the larger wheel?

Also have a Plastimo 53 litre fuel tank but is leaking fuel somewhere on the circular plate. I tried tightening up but still leaking. Maybe i will have to use an instant gasket or something. Have you had problems with your larger tank?

I am pleased with the overall result and did cost me more than anticipated but hey?
I used a complete tube of Silkaflex and secured with screws every 6 inches. Seems solid enough.

Also came across a great Bramber roller coaster trailer which i got for a snip so overall i have a really nice package which is so east to tow and launch.

Had a laugh yesterday had a few scary moments when the thing went airborne. Had my son on the back who was doing his jacket up i accelerated and he flew straight of the back of the seat luckily he didn't hurt himself...

Cheers

I've not had the problem but could see how they could easily leak. Take the deck plate off the tank and make sure the rubber gasket sits inside the grove. It can be a pain to keep it in there wail you screw it back down.

Myself I wouldn't worry to much about a bigger wheel covering the gauges. If your cruising along you'll have time to peak around it, if your pelting along at WOT you'll be holding on for dear life and wont care

I asked about the sikaflex as I'll be fitting a new console to mine soon and I'm still undecided if to glass or sikaflex/screw it down.

Bet your son loves it though

Yeah, been on since December. Even sat on a mooring through May. I take it was the screw that corroded mate?

Yep and to the point where I had to almost chisel it off. It was probably just a normal steel bolt in a brass thread.

It was about as good as the rest of the boat

That was with two of us, two 25 litre fuel tanks. The original back to back seating. I can't remember what prop it was and don't know what RPM we were making as the engine was non electric. Took a while to get on the plane though so might have been a longer pitch than normal. Wouldn't plane 4 up if there was any chop.

I got 39 knots with 50hp,one F*t G*t and 40 litres of fuel aboard. You should equal that on a calm day without much effort.

It should do, did it look in good health? and check the fittings too, breather (blocked off or plumbed in?), fill cap/pipe to deck fitting. Besides that there's no more places they can leak out of if the body of the tank is fine...... I think

When I had mine I kept thinking I wanted something bigger, now I don't have it I regret the day the new owner drove away with it. Wasn't the best looking 4m in the world but I liked it.
