Slipway to go to Isle of Wight?

Hi all!

We are looking to go to the Isle of Wight on 16th September. Can anyone recommend where is the best slipway to drop the boat in the water? We are hoping to find a good slip which has somewhere we can leave car and trailer? If there are any recommendations for a place to stay that would be great too (it’s my wife’s birthday and we thought it would be nice to stay near where we launch so when we come back after it’s easier), preferably somewhere we can take car with trailer.

Not sure whether Southampton or Portsmouth is best either?

Thanks in advance!!!

Jonny

Lymington could work, very good slip and a reasonable amount of parking for car and trailer, plenty of places to have a good lunch in Yarmouth or try the Hut just to the west.
easy to go to Hurst Castle, the Needles and Alum bay.

Camber Dock in Old Portsmouth is good, and there are plenty of places to stay nearby (plus Gunwharf Quays for a bit of outlet shopping).

Steve at KB Boat Park can advise about the latest situation with launching and parking there. He posts as Dry Run here.

Hi,

The Camber slip here in Old Portsmouth is fully operational and there is a free trailer park and pay and display parking for your car. Slipway charges are £2.50 When you launch, you can stop (briefly) at the Millennium Pontoon (to the left as you launch). Plernty of places to stay locally (within walking distance) - 35 Broad Street is very nice.

Regards

Steve

Lymington I think would be your best bet, lunch in yarmouth or cowes, there is a pub with access to the water up the river in cowes (the 'Folly Inn' i think).

Plenty of decent campsites around lymington in the new forest, would be safer for your boat also.

I too would recommend Lymington. Stopped in a nice Airbnb property in walking distance of the slip. You can also park the trailer in the car park next to the May Flower. Also stopped at the https://www.themillatgordleton.co.uk/ just outside Lymington and left the rib in the marina. The local harbour authority have visitor moorings. Left the trailer on the Mill car park foc.

Good base to run to Needles, Cowes, Yarmouth, Bucklers Hard and further afield.

Stay at Master Builders at Bucklers Hard.
Launch boat at Bucklers Hard.
Cruise up Beaulieu River and across Solent.
Lunch at The Hut Collwell Bay, or tide permitting, New Inn, at Newtown Creek.

= Happy Wife.
