Slipway At Hythe Marine

Has anyone used this slip. I notice it is on the sea side of the marina wall, is it accessable at all tides and where do you hold after launch

hi ,I have used it when i had a week down there,I paid to keep it in the marina.cant give you exact times but i think it would only be 2hrs each side of high time.give Hythe marina a ring. Its almost cheaper to stay over night at hythe than to launch from the robbers at Calshot??

Cheers Andy, also looking for a user as I usually use Hamble Point but looking at this as possibly will be nearer at new house. There appears no holding pontoon whilst moving trailer etc. Also not sure about windage as no protection if blowing hard down Southampton Water.

I think the slip is hard against the Marina wall so an element of wind protecton is acheived.

You want to avoid the slip around 2 hrs either side of low water.

It’s pretty sheltered - strong south easterlies are the worst though. Try and avoid launching/recovering as the fast red jets go by (ch14)

The sea bed is pretty much flat from the bottom of the slip pretty much right out to the end of the pier. Soft mud and no obstructions to worry about.

there is NO holding pontoon so you need at least 2 to launch/recover.slip way does get slippery sometimes. car parking is good.if staying over night well worth paying for the marina.

Their is a pontoon you can moor up to just around the corner on the outside of the lock, If you call the marina and ask permission you can moor their once you have launched then walk back round to get you car and trailer sorted and you passengers can embark there as well.

Magic, had a look yesterday and appears great when tide up and the holding on lock pontoon looks good if needed for a short run back to tralier and van. Cheers

BE careful with the mud here if you try and recover off the end of the slipway at low tide.

I saw a speed boat leave it too late to recover, and the trailor went into the thick mud at the bottom of the slipway. Two 4x4's tried to get the boat out, with no luck. The owners had to come back when the tide came back in.

I dont find this slipway too hard to launch or recover from, yes there is a bit of wake when the Red Jets go by, but they only go by every 30 minutes.
