It should remain up to the individual... far too hot & humid out here in Hong Kong most of the year to wear one anyway... perhaps compulsory if in an organized race or sea rescue

When I worked and went out testing on RIBs I used to wear a helmet with a visor. Only because I have to wear specs, and without specs Im as blind as a bat.It was the easy option.

Got Geckos after reading about RI 2013. Out today on the Firth of Forth, blew up quite a lot while we were out. First time used the helmets in anger. Fantastic - comfy, warm, brilliant keeping spray out the eyes - loving it!!!

Unfortunately couldn't hear (ok, ignored) my wife telling me to slow down - chortle....
Now i need body armour, as on the 3rd time of asking got a solid punch in the arm - doh!

I've got that tee shirt too, funny how even with the smoked visor "that" stare is clearly visible when you don't obey the slow down commands from the boss

During the RI13 most people wore beanie hats during the good weather bits.
As soon as the weather got rough everybody put their lids on.We found that the
Combination of Typhoon surface dry suits and Gecko helmets to be fantastic.we would not consider doing a longish trip without them

As a matter of interest where can you buy a Gecko - and are they any good for skiing/mountain biking (or over the top for that)?

Gecko have got a website, you can view the various styles etc and order direct with them over the phone, they have got an eBay site with slight seconds which is were mine came from, still can't find what was supposed to be wrong with them! we bought the tinted visors last season, just helps taking the glare of the reflections

gecko are great to deal with, very friendly and deliveries always spot on

The MK11 Gecko which some of us use is a marine safety helmet and should not be used for anything else.

Our company is also a dealer for Gecko headgear so just send me an email on ahparker@btinternet.com with your exact requirements and I will get a price to you.
I have already supplied Gecko helmets to many fellow ribnetters

The standard package is MK11 c/w long or short visor and bag. best to have the clear visor.
