Well, after some digging, I finally got hold of the guy that bought the moulds for the Shakespeare 720, 620 and I think 520 ribs, along with the www.ribs-by-shakespeare.co.uk website from Francis.

He still has the moulds, in the UK, can still make them, but has let the website license lapse because of the climate.

Thanks to Paul Lemmer for the contact details :-)

Some Shakespeare moulds do appear to have gone to China, but not those that most of us would think of as the moulds of Shakespeare ribs.

Neil, are you hoping to get a new hull built? What do think the chances of getting a 620 made?

If you did would you not struggle to get it CE marked? Unless you were to self build it?

No, just a bench seat maybe.

Chances? Fair I would imagine but you would have to ask them.

Why? My boat came CE marked by Shakespeare. Would have thought a new one would be the same.

Because of the climate where anyone looking for anything expects to be able to find it on the web? Seems crazy to not pay £5 a year (OK maybe £19.99 including hosting a very basic contacts page somewhere). After all as I recall shakespeare were fairly keen priced - so should be attractive in the economic climate.

It can only be CE marked if the builder has a technical file etc. It depends what he bought. If literally just the moulds he has a heap of work to do even if self certifying. If he bought the paperwork too - then he'll still have some hoops to jump through although I suspect many won't bother!

As, Shiny is suggesting homebuilt boats are RCD exempt though if not sold for 5 yrs from completion. It MAY be possible for someone to supply bare hulls with no tubes etc with no CE mark for home completion. If CE marking matters to you its probably best to work this stuff out before ordering though. We don't seem to take CE marking of boats as seriously in the UK as some other EU countries.

How can you put a warranty on a product if the company isn't trading?

Do you means GED's advert? That boat was supplied and rigged by Liverpool Powerboats so assume they are first point of contact for warranty claims.

I agree but that's what he said, it's his business.

If you are talking about the shakespeare for sale that Poly linked to Biff, it's the engine that is stated to have a 3 year warranty.

Anyway, I think Shakespeare ribs are still trading, from what I could ascertain.

Neil do you mind telling us where they are trading from? It must have taken you sometime to track them down.
