set back plate for sr 4.0

hello, i was thinking of adding a set back plate on my sr 4.0. wondering if anyone has ever used this set up, pros and cons of it, im looking to get a bit more speed out of my boat without it porpousing around 39 mph. Im running a 50 hp 2 stroke mercury, Ive had the boat up to 43 but looking to smooth out the ride? thanks

porposing

By the sounds of things i am guessing it gets a bit hairy near the top end. You might consider going with a set of trim tabs which should smooth out the ride. I've got an Avon Adventure 400 with a 40 Yammy and they did the trick on my boat. Isued the composite style Smart tbas and they worked great.

Try sticking a fuel tank in the bow. It solved it for me when I had the SR4 with exactly the same chinewalking issues at 37-39mph.

Nah...

I saw 39 knots with 40 litres of fuel aboard plus an aux in mine. It would go faster but I started to foam at the mouth...

I was thinking of also lifting the motor a inch or two. boat is everything i want but like I said I have started to porpose before I even start to chine walk, The boat will start to porpouse at about 39mph, I can get it up a bit faster but I am just looking to squeeze every last mph I can possibly get. I have had it at 43mph which is what I believe the hull is rated for top speed. I would just love to top that though. Will I ever be able to surpass a hulls top speep without the chinwalking and porposing? Also I have used the smart tabs on my avon 5.4 and while they do everything advertised, faster planeing, smoother ride and better control in corners it seems to tame the boat a bit. I love the wildness of how the boat feels without the tabs.
