Selva

I was interested in what anyone thought of this Selva 80hp. It has to be one of the lightest 80hp on the market and can be picked up for sub 6k.

Selva Marine

They also do a 70hp four stroke which is part yam but not as expensive.

For a leisure user are they any good?

All Selva 4 stokes are re badged Yamahas, their 2 stokes had a shocking reputation but they were taken over by Yamaha so who knows now.

Yamaha didn't take over Selva but they do have a minority share holding. The larger four strokes are rebadged Yamaha. Selva manufacture for Yamaha, Yanmar and Torquedo. The older carb two strokes had an undeserved poor reputation, which is good for me as it makes them cheap, I now have quite a collection of 70, 80, 90 & 100hp models and understand what makes them work. They used VRO oil injection for a time 97-2001/2 ish and then moved to mechanically driven Mikuni multipoint oil injection thereafter. The newer fuel injected models are loosely based on the older 2 & 3 cylinder blocks and legs but have completely redesigned heads and induction/fuel systems. They are a different beast from the carb models and quite impressive.
Unfortunately Selva Marine Sales UK don't seem to push engine sales much nowadays but do a great job on parts backup.
I am seriously considering ordering an 80 Tiger Shark myself.
