Selling through a brokerage?

Hi guys

A delivery has arrived at our house... nope, not more shiny bits for the boat but a baby boy

It's pretty clear that we won't have time to use the boat (well I may sneak out once or twice!). I need some means of a quick hassle free sale. How do brokerages work? I'd imagine you take quite a big hit, but at least they store it for you?

Congratulations first of all. I used Ancasta down in Port Solent, mainly cos my boat was moored there. They charged 8% plus vat so yes quite a fee, which they deduct from the purchasers money before you get your hands on it.

Fortunately I managed to sell the boat privately so did not have to pay them any dosh. Boats and Outboards is quite a good site which is where I got my purchaser from, plus it is free unless you want to put more than one picture up, in which case they charge £10 for 3/4 pics.

I'm not a huge fan of brokers, particularly Ancasta whom charge a lot not much more than putting a photo up in their office. Expensive yachts are more their thing. I used Boatshed to sell my Searay and was mildly impressed. Their agent again, was a bit of a 'rag and stick' man but, tried hard and got the result at what felt was a reasonable commision rate.I can't remember what it was. I agree that B&O is as good as anything.

Use boats and outboards mate, it should seel no problem. How much are you after for it?

I'm asking £12k for it, I'm hoping that should get a quick sale... especially as the sun is statrting to shine!

The problem is there's a certain amount of urgency as the current storage location (the in-laws' place) is being sold at the end of the month, so I need to rehome it one way or another!

Best way by far will be boatsandoutboards. Get it on there ASAP. I have sold boats within 24 hours on there so you certainly have a chance of getting rid of it before the end of the month. If not store it in on its trailer at a marina down on the South coast for a month or two. IMHO the money and time spent on storing it and selling it on B&O is going to be far less than money paid to a brokerage.

B&O is the way to go . Had mine advertised in local papers and Buy and Sell
, no interest . Advertised in B&O and I have had loads of interest , no sale as
yet but I’m hopeful .
