Selling our Searider 5.4m ....but .......

Hi All

Yes we are going to sell our most fantastic Searider but we are going to buy a different one

Why - well I have to go back into hospital later this year (so no more RIB use currently) and Darren has just been diagnosed with arthritis so we want to get our little Searider into a home that can use her this Summer and then buy another RIB with slightly more leisure orientated seating and a softer ride (less wet) in the Autumn.

Any thoughts on what we should be looking for - nothing too big and something that is as forgiving and safe as our Searider - believe me if I wasn't in trouble health wise I'd never part with her.

Also any suggestions on where we look to sell her - I'm not going to let her go for peanuts as she really is perfect - no repairs, no damage, loads of extra kit and Biffs just fitted an aux bracket and given the outboard a going over - no issues there either

Anyway best go give her a wash and scrub

Jxx

Gutted to hear that, hope it works out for you.

Typical step up usually diagnosed from a gaffatape rider for more room and a drier ride would be a 6m with higher sheer bow for the drier ride.

Humber destroyer is a popular choice, we went from sr5.4 to 6.3 Humber ocean pro, but that's a big leap, we have 4-6 people though now. A 6m could have seating for 4 behind the console comfortably.

Usual suspects, Humber ribcraft osprey etc going up in cost respectively (ish)

Jean, sorry to hear about the medical stuff, going through tough times with my dad at the moment so know how frustrating it must feel.

With regards to the next step what sort of budget are you considering. There are some nice 2nd hand ribs around but a lot will depend on how much you want to spend !

Also thinking of all the gadgets you fitted to your Rib you may find you get a better return taking these off the boat and selling them separately or keeping them for the next rib. You tend to lose a lot when you include gadgets as part of the package !

Chris - You forgot to menion that a 6.5 Vipermax is KY's ideal choice of next RIB.

LOL - thanks all - on the one hand gutted as our days have certainly been much more interesting with our Searider but also excited about what we get next - just have to remember it needs to be later in the year

As for budget around 10k me thinks but open to suggestions - Paul you've hit the nail on the head re comfort and drier - glad to hear we are not the only ones who wish/have moved up - hard to see our little starter go though

Chris hope things go well for your Dad - yes it is very frustrating!!

£10k doesn't quite get you into Vipermax territory. A slightly older RC 585 or 5.5 Humber perhaps.

If it's end of season it should be a fair bit easier finding something like that within budget as long as you haggle hard

Thanks all - I think we can add a few more pennies for the right RIB - but need to set some kind of budget otherwise I'll get silly - and I never get silly and buy stuff I don't need

What was I thinking !

Jean a 6.5 vipermax would be the perfect Rib however as Mollers said a bit overbudget. If you can stretch your budget there was a nice 5.8 on B&O for reasonable money.

Sorry Jean I cant see the Osprey I was thinking of on there now however if you fancy a project then this looks interesting.

Get it for 7-8k and you could easily afford a bit of a refit to suit your needs.

Hi Jean,
Sorry to hear about your health issues. Good luck with that.
That Osprey is here also.....

A BIN of £7500 makes it interesting. A little bit of haggling might do the trick to bring him down even further.
I sadly will not be back for the Pembrokeshire run. Just make sure you have a blast over to The Old Point House at Angle.

Hi Jean,

Hopefully your health issues will be resolved over the season. On the bright side, it's a good time of the year to sell a rib. I'd do as suggested and keep the fancy bits you bought. You'd sell them on here for more, even if you don't use them yourself.

It seems to be a recurring theme - people leaving ribbing for health reasons. I'm not sure is it ribs, our age profile or just stats that are to blame. I've had some use of Sonar's geckos, and I feel guilty every time I wear one.

If you get a chance over the summer (shows etc.) have a look at ScotSeats shock mitigation seats - they're expensive but one for your next helm position might be worth thinking about - they make a huge difference to the ribbing experience.

All the best!

willk (& crew )

The Ribtec was on Ebay a short while ago...but never made reserve. Was very nearly tempted to bid!
