Selling a Rib...

Thinking of buying a new Rib-x 640 so must get rid of my Rib-X 575

I have advertised on on Ebay but I am not sure if this is the right thing to do.....

What do you think of Boat and Outboards......
Has anyone had problems with Ebay ?????

regards

Gazza

My brother sold his RIB on B&O and I bought a sailing dinghy. Both went very well.

It's not the advertising method that's the problem, it's the thieving scum that are attracted to high value goods and may try to con you!

Common scams:
Stolen Building Society Cheques (your bank may clear them initially, but take the money back after finding that they are stolen)
Money laundering (buyer offers more than asking price and requests "cashback" and you're left with "funny money")
Casing the joint (buyer request viewing and then returns at night to collect without payment)
Have I put you off yet? Unfortunately there's probably more cons besides these. Good luck.

I used Boats & Outboards to sell a Yacht this time last year - went very well - good response from advert.

Recieved a couple of strange e-mails so as Richard says - beware of scams.

Its free so worth a go.

Cheers

Phil

Hi

I have bought two boats from the UK over the years , one on Boats and Outboards and the other one on ebay . Both transactions went smoothly on my side although the seller on ebay did have a lot of trouble with winning bidders not materializing before withdrawing it and selling it privately to myself .

Gavin and I recently sold our RIB on Ebay, well it was sold before the auction end... We advertised our Rib on B&O and various other sites , including large bright signs on the boat in the marina, near the main walkway ....... Nothing, not even a time wasting call ...

On Ebay , which we put it up twice. It didnt make it reserve the first time, and the second time we put it as a feature , we got 4 serious inquires , one wanted to swap a car with us , another bought a binliner before he came to see our RIB , another missed out because he was on holidays ... and one guy came along and paid us the asking price on the spot !!!!!!

EBAY ALL THE WAY

Selling is all about the advert.

I've sold three ribs now via Boats and Outboards and cannot recommend it enough. Always post a picture, a good one, list the kit on board, when guarentees run out, weight of the boat on the trailer etc etc. mentally start at the back of your boat and list EVERYTHING!

EG:::

John Smith 5.5m with 2Hp Mariner XL OPTIMAX Outboard

Its in beautiful condition and has been very well looked after. The boat is capable of 5000000kts and has seating for four.

The boat has all the kit and some of the hightlights are listed below;
*Custom Built 2" Stainless Folding A Frame
*Nav Lights
*Radar Reflector
*Small Flag Pole
*4'Fiberglass VHF Aerial
*2' Spare Whip Aerial
*GPS Aerial
*Towing Eyes mounted to transom
*Cabling Harness
*Fire Extinguisher
*Treadmaster Flooring
*Pursuit In-line console
*Toe Straps
*Two 75ltr Fuel Tanks with switch over valve
*Storage under console including Optimax Oil Tank
*Paddles
*Two Electric Bilge Pumps with 1150gph Capacity
*Padded Seat in good condition
*Seperate Back Rest for Driver
*Vetus Hydraulic Steering
*Mercury SmartCraft Digital Gauges including Speed, RPM, Temp (air and water), Barometer, Range, GPH, Remaining fuel.
*Fuel Tank Guages
*Lowrance B/W EchoSounder
*GARMIN 188c Colour GPS Plotter using Blue Chart Cards (Large screen and can be connected to Echosounder)
*ICOM M603 GMDSS (DSC) VHF Radio including Command Mic connect to rear of console. (Connected to GPS)
*Waterproof fully fused Switch panel
*Magnetic Compass
*Windscreen
*OffCom VHF Licence
*SSR Registered
*Plenty of grab handles
*Tubes in VERY good condition. No colour fade or leaks
*Hull in good condition also.

*The engine is a 2010 Mariner OptiMax Offshore producing 2Hp via a long shaft and a stainless steel laser propeller. The Prop has exhaust vents and the Offshore branding denotes an oversized cooling system for saltwater use. The engine is in beautiful condition and has been professionally installed. It has been regularly serviced by a Mercury agent. It has run for 160 trouble free hours!
The fuel economy is equivalent for a four stroke and uses very little oil. The correct Optimax oil has only been used.

This boat has only been used for cruising. It has not been used for diving, water skiing, teaching or commercially.

Additonal photos are available to serious purchasers only.

A test drive/sail can be arranged.

Thanks for looking.

See! Easy peasy and makes it sound like the best thing since sliced bread!

As far as paying goes I'd insist without a doubt to avoid cash, bankers drafts, and cheques as there is always some scam on going with these methods. A same day electronic transfer is the best way to have confirmed funds transfered. It cost twenty quid and is a great piece of mind to know the cash is in your bank safe!

Trouble is with ebay it tends to be a bit of a dumping ground for boats that are ' er well falling apart really and this does seem to atract the rong type of people, also because it is probably on ebay for a quick sale your more than likely not going to get your asking price but on saying that i have sold succesfully on ebay before without any problems, But i think you are better of advertiseing on a specialist site like boatsandoutboards

One everone seems to forget - www.adtrader.co.uk - it iss the website of "freeads" - never used it to sell a boat but great for all sorts of things - quite a few boats and bits and pieces listed - you can put you ad in there online for NOTHING!!!!!
