How many of you have them? are they just a luxury and is the a cheaper option

Yes, burn a lot less fuel on the up-slopes and keep the boat upright. Saves you a fortune in motors and electronics too.

Cheaper option would be boat handling course if you haven't already done one, all goes towards not going flip flop.

A few fenders or empty 5 gallon containers MAY also serve the same purpose.
