seat recovering / re-trimming

My Ballistic 650 is in desperate need of the seats recovering

Anyone know any good companies to complete this work, any recent experiences, costs?

I am guessing its going to be a big job, but I hope not expensive.

4 x single seat bases and backs
1 x console front seat base and back
2 x bow storage units
1 x anchor locker
1 x sun deck

When I pack her up for winter I am planning on taking them home to dry them out where possible, so I hope the wood and foam will be dry and re-useable.

Really? it doesn't look bad to me.

Foam is probably ok.Drying the foam will take a LONG time.Mine took weeks. I suspect you'll find once you've got the seat covers off, the wood will look a lot worse than you think. It won't last very long unless sealed with epoxy and it doesn't appear that they are sealed when new from what I've seen.
(My new bases are all sealed using Timberseal PS epoxy, with large vent holes in the wood to stop water buildup)

You won't get it out of the seat backs in one piece anyway-it's bonded to the foam.

Contact JBT, they may have a new suicide seat backrest there and new backrests. The price of the new backrests is probably comparable to getting them recovered.

I got mine (material) from Snuggtopz in Norfolk.
From memory, the colours are light grey and Royal blue and the material is Nautolex.

There's a chart here, and they'll send you samples to confirm.

Nos, That was when I got her as a reference photo, and I cant believe how bad they have got. The main area of concern is forward of the console, the anchor locker, sun deck, and console seat area are all split and damaged, the rest has a few splits - but if getting it completed I am guessing it would be most cost affective, and look best doing it all in one go.

I will drop JBT a mail

Hi Steve,

PM me or call if you want to know who we use to do Ballistics. Can't think of the top of my head, but can look it up as we had some done recently for a dry stack client. Seemed a good price.

Cheers

Steve

Due to a lack of funds - I didn’t manage to re-trim my seats this winter.

I removed and stripped all the seats down at the end of last season to dry them out in the hope of reusing the foam and using the old as templates so now I have a pile of bits to reassemble ready for my first trip in March.

I am fine with the wooden bases, but what adhesive do you recommend to stick the fabric to the fibreglass bases? Ideally something I can easily collect from a DIY store so I can get them done this weekend.

Also any recommendations on tape or similar I could use on the inside to patch up the worst cracks / rips?

Everything from £1500 to about £500. As I added the NMEA2000 and new lowrance kit that’s taken up all my winter budget.

I still want it doing but have some bookings for the rib in March so it needs to be back together in the next few weeks, if I get the money and the time I may revisit this midsummer – but if not it will be done at winter.

I like the look of that boat, very nice!
Cost wise anything mid-way should be enough to warrant a decent job, I dont think 500 is enough!
A lot depends on the foam, if you need new it can be quite costly. It is possible to add 1/2" or 1" of foam to the existing if its worn .This will at least give a neater finish.
Decent vinyl is £25 plus per metre so that adds up too!
Rather than a Marine trimmer try your local upholsterer they may be less expensive.
Just remade my seat and new back rest!

All the UV on the vinyl doesnt help, next job is to make a cover out of weathermax. (Good stuff)

Well got all my old seat bases, foam, and covers out of the loft to rebuild them the best I could - but the covers have shrunk!! Ahh. Any advice as at the moment they are about 1cm short

If they have gone stiff it will be tricky if they have gone brittle it could be impossible!
Try warming the vinyl with a hair dryer that can make it much more flexible.
If you are desperate you could trim the wooden bases slightly if they have enough overhang.
Sounds like its time to replace them though!

They have gone all of the above - stiff brittle and cracking

I can't trim as the bases are the lids to lockers.

Thinking of putting them in a warm bath to try and loosen them up!

It's going to be impossible to re trim them before I need the boat, I have a LR discovery and that's stealing all my cash at the moment and has seriously skinned me.

I knew as soon as I posted someone from the LR bashing crew would be along!

But in its defence it's just wear and tear stuff that needs to be done - cam belt, oil pump casing, compressor, aux belt tensioner.... Remap.....

I am in a little Fiat 500 for the week while this all gets done - I can't wait to get the Disco back!!
