Searider deck

Anyone know what's under the raised section of the deck on a 5.4 searider, where the original console sits?
Is it ply glassed onto the deck? Would it be possible to grind off and then seal where it has been?

Check out post 4:-
http://rib.net/forum/showthread.php?...earider&page=2

IIRC, David left the raised platform there where the console is, and cut the console bottom to shape.

But, check out the first pic of post 4, he has ground down the raised bits for the fuel tank. I think the raised sections are simply ply glassed in. Other people have removed the seat plinths, then glassed over them.

Neil, thanks for the link. That thread has been very valuable on allot of things I've been doing so far. My intention was to cut the jockey seat to the shape to fit but it's more the case of having your right foot higher than your left then as the raised section is right where my right foot will fall naturally.

I reckon gringing it off will be a hell of a job.
I guess it might be possible to get a circular saw, set it to the right height, cut a kind of matric, which might make it easy to chisel off each square. Just an idea, not sure if a good one or not! but the idea of grinding it all off...

that raised bit.... is infact 2 or 3 strips of marine ply. it is very very well stuck down. I would say it is not a small job to remove it. I used a chainsaw but i was not looking to keep the deck.

9inch grinder and keep a good grip on it best of luck.

use an electric planer ...cheap enough nowadys ....will give you a far better finish than a grinder and save you hours ...wear suitable protection and breathing safety wear though

if you do use a grinder use flexible sanding discs as grinding discs will leave unsightly gouge marks

been there and done it ...no big deal with a planer
