Searider 5.4 whats it worth want one!

Hi having bought an Aerotech last year i am now offically addicted and am after a Rib. Having scoured this forum I have deceided that the Searider 5.4 is the one for me. My ideal mount would have a Yam 90 but they are as rare as hens teeth and I cant wait for Matt to sell his.

I have seen this advertised and it would seem fairly original and does have the yam motor albeit 80hp and not 90, so calling the likes of Nos, Chris and Matt to impare your pearls of wisdom upon me.

There's a chap on this site selling a Ribtec 535 with a 90 Johnson. I know people get all excited about SR's and pay daft money for them, but I know this Ribtec,it's a cracking rig, fast, seaworthy and easily a match for a 5.4 SR. In my opinion.

what year is it? and what year is the engine? It looks fairly original but could do with some tidying up. Is the trailer included? whats the condition of the trailer?
also wouldn't worry about an 80 or a 90, pretty much the same engine. Mine does 34 knots with an 80 yam and 100 litres of fuel, a 110ah liesure battery 15kg anchor and a fat t**t at the helm
the prop is a 17"K series.

The motor is 89 / 90 not sure about the hull, the answer to some questions i posed below
(1) The hull has not been painted. All the little chips and dings to the hull have been filled with West Epoxy and sanded down. The hull is totally sound.
(2) Tubes are airtight. I have to put more air in about twice a year and then it's not much. There are no patches.
(3) Transom sound
(4) Documented service history for the engine for last 3 years, I have mislaid the earlier stuff. Full carburettor overhaul this year. recon. starter motor 2007. Full leg and water pump serviced 2007.
(5) Trailer needs attention. I have removed the brake system as we used it to launch the boat into the sea with the trailer. bearings seem o.k. but wheel rims are a bit rusty. Needs some TLC !!
(6) Trials also anytime but not within 2 hours of Low water Southampton
(7) We have had the boat since 2003
(8) Comes with nav. lts and a spotlight. Also an electric bilge pump. Compass, anchor and warps included.

I very much doubt the ribtec would be in my budget!!

Before Chris, Nos and Matt shoot there pearls all over you why not have a look at the Ribtec that Mollers is on about. Sounds nice.

The 5.4SR looks good, just needs a tidy up but 90% of the ones you see for sale always do.
Don't know jack about the benefits of a 90hp over an 80hp tough.

Sorry I couldn't tell ya. Don't think it is advertised on here, but Mollers will be able to tell you better.

Going back to the searider your looking at, and to my limited experienced mind, it looks a good buy if the price is right. Don't forget to have a good look at the trailer, sounds as if it may need some work on it.

I am waiting for some V6 carbs and reedplates to come along at the right price, then i should be way over 90HP, hoping to swing a either a 21" prop
or a 19" and weld the crank and rev the nuts off it
should be good for 45knots then, Matt gets 40Knots with a 90 and a 19"prop.
i am waiting for advice from fast fred

Its difficult to say without looking at it, but from the description and pictures i would say the tubes could do with a few hundered quid spent on them to tidy up, The engine cover needs respraying and a decal set,
The trailer will need new brakes fitting because AFAIK if the plated weight is over 750KGS then it must have brakes even if the actual weight is under 750ks. Then there's no electronics with it? so you're looking at £150 for a radio and £400 for a colour plotter.
i think you could easily spend £1500 on it to get it totally shipshape(assuming you do your own labour) which to my way of thinking means i wouldnt want to spend much more than a few grand on it,
I guess the engine is worth 1-1.2K the trailer maybe £500
and the boat about a grand?
that makes £3750 about a grand optomistic?
whats every one else think?

It belongs to a camp attendant who lives up the coast from me. He's recently stolen a 585 Ribtec, so the 535 is being 'cut loose'.

He goes by the name of 'Kernow' which is cornish for tosser.

Go direct, he's online now. He might be slow to respond as he mointors several 'specialist' sites when surfing the net.

I think it's about right - certainly not overly optimistic like some of the crud you see for sale. Ribtec's are expensive new and of the same quality as Ribcraft (certainly when the boat in question was made).

It's not a Ribtec, it's a SR5.4

Right I'm lost - is it not Kernow's 535 that's for sale at £3,750? If it's that Searider I wouldn't pay more than £2,500.
