SeaRider 4M Refurb.

Greetings

After a horrific Journey through Bavaria I finally got my Avon Searider 4M

The Tubes have been painted in some kind of tube paint - looks horrible, I'll remove it later on

The Transom has been strengthened with an Aluminium Plate from the inside and a wooden one from the outside.

I Suspected the transom was rotten so i literally ripped it off

Turns out i was right, the whole Transom was a mouldy mess

It will be fully rebuilt. I'll remove the tubes from the sides of the transom, rip the wood and the front GRP out, rebuild the wooden part of the transom out of a wooden plate and re-glass it in.

The Deck has suffered a little too, i'll sand away the top layer of GRP and wood, and leave the bottom one and then rebuild in in wood&GRP.

or do you think i should rebuild the whole deck?
I want to retain the flooding hull too.

This is the motor that will go with it

You have some work on there, my immediate thoughts are it will be complicated to rebuild the sinking hull as internal access will be tricky.

SR4 is the forum expert on searider 4 meter RIBs, he has just done one up, I'm sure he will be along soon with advice.

True
I've had a proper look at the deck and it seems the screws that were used to hold the seats in place(It used to be one of the old Dashboard-Windscreen SRs) have let water into the deck, so the next thing to do is to rip out the whole deck, and remake it..

Thank you

Though, i know how to fiberglass, and that is a start

Just got to rip out the deck & transom, then rebuild it, put a jockey console inside, stick the motor and assorted electric on it and have fun....

sounds so easy........

If you are replacing the deck and transom then you have a good opportunity to build in some reinforcement, maybe a sump for a pump, a transom drain and ducting for cables etc (wish I had done that on mine). If you already have the console build in some good strong anchor points in the underside of the decking.
Good luck with your project and have fun.

This is a project too far. Plenty of decent SR4s around for not too much money. Bail out of it now and buy a nice one instead.

Transom Drain is planned, same goes for Cable Ducting - the Console will be glassed on, and i'll build a bow locker too

Would love to - I still live in germany and in germany a good SR4 costs 2-3000€ and thats without a motor(if you find any)

Buying one in the UK would be possible but the cost for petrol would be quite high and so its propably cheaper refurbing this SR - plus i like working on old stuff

Absolutely, you will get far more enjoyment out of it, its just about winter anyway so you will not use it afloat, far better to play indoors

SR4 made a grand job of his , last time I saw him it was dark and it lit the marina up with !
, fish were coming from all directions .

Anyone know what happened to SR4, not herd from him for a while and mextli could really do with his input , no one knows as much as SR4 about how these are put together, the above lights were fitted in side his sinking hull.

I can understand you not wanting underwater lighting at this stage , the point of the post was just to explain why SR4 is the best person to ask.
He has fitted the underwater lights under the hull at the tern, inside the sinking floor.

Thats invasive work into the floor.
seems he is away as he hasnt posted for a while.

He has maybe set off on a round Britain cruise , it was equipped well enough

I've just tried to send SR4 a pm to draw his attention to this post but I cant pm yet, presume I'm too new or not got enough posts yet ?

Can one of the regulars pm him for his input please , alright I know mexti doesnt want a hydrostatic released inflatable self righting radar arch but SR4 has an in depth knowledge of how the searider sinking floor inside and SR4 could be a valued contributor on this thread
