Scotland West coast

Over the years we have rented various caravans/lodges with their own mooring for the rib in a 30 mile radius of Oban and wonder if there are any we have missed in that area. These are the ones we know about:

Sunnybrae
Castle Sween
Tayvallich
Creran Moorings
Ardoran Marine

Does anyone know of any more? Ideally the mooring will be in sight of the accommodation and the closer to Oban the better.

http://www.linnhemarina.co.uk/ - the owners also have some cottages. I haven't stayed in their cottages but used to keep a boat in the "boat yard" and you couldn't ask for friendlier service.

or a bit further North - Linhe Lodges - you can see the 'harbour' better in the site for the hotel next door owned by the same people. We stayed in the lodges under previous ownership and they were good - I believe they've been renovated since then. I would discuss your boating requirements with them though as when we were there the harbour wasn't really in active use. There was a RIB being stored there.

Try this one on Seil Island, Nick Hunter the owner has his own pontoon and a mooring that you get to by walking down the field from the farm, 50yds only. The accomodation is fine for 4, maybe pushing it a bit for 6. Good quality. We have stayed there for a weekend.

Its a great base for exploring the surrounding Islands in a RIB

Here is another one fairly remote but has moorings and also a restaurant too. Not fair from Oban by rib

Bit further away from Oban, but never the less a good base is Ardfern, these cottages have the pub about 1 minute away on one side, the village shop and marina 2 minutes away on the other side. Again a great cruising area.

www.lochcraigcotts.co.uk

Craobh Haven is also not a bad base with pub and marina on the doorstep.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply, there seem to be some interesting ones there. Wifey likes the posh ones, which has just doubled our budget, as until now she was happy in a caravan.

You could put your boat into Oban Marina, or onto one of the visitors' moorings in Oban Bay if you want to stay close to Oban, and stay at any number of hotels or guest houses in Oban from which you could keep an eye on the boat.

Or there's the Wide Mouthed Frog at Dunstaffnage Marina.

SeaSkills (Oban centre) has a small number of moorings on the island side of Kerrera Sound - not as easy to access but pm me if you want any more information

If you like "posh ones" try Melfort Pier www.mellowmelfort.com, at the head of Loch Melfort. They have serviced moorings, which you can see from most of the apartments.

Have you thought about going further, ie up to the Plockton area or Arasaig, it would only be another 2 to 3hrs drive.

They both have moorings that you can rent, from Arasaig you get out into the sound and can see the minke whales and dolphins between the mainland and Eigg.

If you really like it you could always move permanently, it seems to be on the market at the bargain basement price of only 4.1 million. Form and orderly queue please.

Just a few short months ago 4.1 million would probably have bought most of the shares. I think I would still prefer Melfort though.

Shhh!!! Don't let everyone know or it will start to get as crowded as the solent. Mind you having a few more folk around might encourage some more shore side facilities like petrol to be made available. Lugging petrol from garages is just not my idea of fun.
