Scam????

Right folks ain't been on for while due to family life and my son who was born disabled but decided to list rib on gumtree for a price and if made that I'd sell if not then rib stays!!!
Need your thoughts on what occur today
1st this txt msg!!!
Hi,hearing impaired man here,I just saw your rib AD on gumtree and am very keen.pls let me know the condition.Kindly reach me at fk0230@gmail.com

Then after sending few pics via email thinking was genuine I received this odd email !!

Hi,

I am very keen. How i wish i could come for viewing and inspection as
am currently away at the moment and i want it picked up before i get
back, though i will be back in couple of weeks. Due to my inability to
make a bank deposit, I would be paying via PayPal which is safer for
me. Kindly send me a paypal payment invoice or create an account at
www.paypal.co.uk if you don't have one. I will make a concrete pick
up arrangement with my transport agent who will be coming over for
pick up once you receive full payment into your PayPal account. In the
meantime, I will like you to remove the AD from the internet to avoid
further inquiry as i will definitely be buying it.

Cheers
Frank

Ofcourse I'm not daft so emailed bck saying cash on collection pal

Very similar to a response to an add I got last week when I had mine listed!
I sent him a two word response.... And it wasn't very polite!

Thanks for your response,I'm ok with price and the conditions,
l'm buying it for my vacation, because i'll be coming soon from rig.
I started in 1987 in United Kingdom and although most of my work
has been here in Brazil, recently up north in the oil sands, I have through
the years also worked in Mexico,US and offshore in New Zealand.
I won't be able to Inspection due to the nature of my work, would 've love to call
in person but satellite server has been down which restrict calls.
l'll contact my courier agent to contact you for pick it up and deliver it in my place.
Plz get back to me with your paypal details in order for me to make
payment to you cos that my only method of payment.

I would appreciate if you can email me more pictures (if available)
since l won't be be able to see this in person, what's the PayPal
email to send money in order for me to pay you ASAP.

massive scam!! the idea is, false courier collects your property and delivers it to the crook (probably same person) but you dont care you have full payment via paypal right! wrong, you will then get the buyer stopping the payment or claiming it all back because they have never received the boat!! ok so you have no proof its gone or that you owned it even! and its not on ebay because you removed it!! so ends up you are without a boat and without the cash!! utter scum bags!!

surely someone can "sting" these guys back one day.
get the cops to follow the agent picking up the boat and see where it goes.
just play it all out but bust them. I suppose police not interested in this kind of fraud for just 5K or 10K.

Defininte scam. Either....
  1. Attempt to rip you off as described above.
  2. money laundering scam. you will find significantly more than the agreed price of the boat in your paypal account, shortly after an email will arrive saying it's all a mistake and asking you to pay the overpayment to another account. they'll probably never bother with the boat but you'll have an account full of dirty money.
2nd happenned to a mate of mine who runs a yacht charter business. Had a boat for sale, was contacted by a guy who booked a week's skippered charter as a 'try before you buy'. Week went fine. Agreed purchase price. Mate found £50k more than the agreed price in his account. email arrived asking him to withdraw the £50k as a cheque which he arranged with the bank (yes he is a bit gullible!). when he arrived to collect the cheque he found the serious fraud squad waiting for him! Only after going through all his emails etc did they let him off as an innocent victim.

If it smells fishy, it's a fish! don't reply!!!!

Anytime you hear excuses for why you can't talk to them or "My agent will collect..." or someone that will purchase your boat sight unseen, or they will overpay you, red flags should be going up and you should be thinking SCAM SCAM SCAM!! People are out to steal your money and your boat. They are betting that you won't ask questions or "make a big deal about it".

Similar thing happened to a friend of mine "in the trade" A guy walks into the showroom & buys a £5k outboard with his card, says he'll be back later with a van to pick it up. Card payment goes through, all hunky dory. Guy rings up, family emergency he can't get to pick up the engine, so his brother is coming instead. Bloke turns up in a van "I've come to pick up the outboard for my brother" loads it up & drives away. 10 minutes later, another bloke turns up "I've come to pick up the outboard for my brother" My mate "eh! He's already collected it" No he hasn't (or has he?) Original buyer calls credit card company who claw back the payment from my mate. 5 grand engine nicked, police not interested.
