Perhaps it's being considered as the floating prison replacement.

American cruise ship full of American pensioners re-visiting the places they were stationed at during WW2 perhaps. Bovington tank museum and the Jurasic Coast for day trips, probably a few stately homes to see too. Remember they only have about 400 years of history so need to visit other countries to see where King Arthur lived and marvel at some rock slabs that were moved from South Wales and stacked on top of each other near Amesbury and finally see what the Romans did for us with there baths and road building.

Portland is trying hard to get itself on the cruise ship calender, especially what with the Olymipics a just few years away.

Now let me think, the Med, Caribbean or Portland .... ?

The idiot local councillors made a big noise when a cruise ship came into Swansea. They were spouting how they had managed to persuade it to come here and how Swansea would be the destination of choice etc etc. they pissed off a lot of locals and visitors with stupid security restrictions.

Of course no crusie ship has ever called back...............

Portland is located just five miles south of the resort of Weymouth, forming the southernmost point of the county of Dorset, United Kingdom. Portland’s harbor is one of the deepest man-made harbors in the world at 39 to 66 feet. The large, deep artificial harbor was a Royal Navy base during World War I and World War II; the Navy and NATO trained in its waters until the 1990s. It will host the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The following Shore Excursions are available for this port on this cruise

* Abbotsbury Swannery and Sub Tropical Gardens
* Corfe Castle & Scenic Drive
* Minterne Gardens & the Cerne Abbas Giant
